AR is likely gone to the NFL. Gators come in with a top rushing team, and Napier "suddenly" schemes the game to be pass heavy to the point that even as the possibility of a loss hanging over his head, he still went forward with AR passings. My guess is it was to beef up AR's passing stats for NFL scouts and nothing more. I just hope we don't lose recruits over such stupid scheming.
I hope he declares for the NFL so he, the team, and the fans can move on. If he opts out of the bowl game, that would be fine too.
Yeah he had some bad passes. Every QB has them in every game though. The reality was his on target % was quite high. AR was not the reason we lost and he was arguably the best player on the field for both teams today.
The first half we were basically 50/50 run to pass. The run did absolutely nothing and the pass was good. We scored no touchdowns The second half we went more pass and the O was good. 3 TDs of 6 full time drives. The run/pass split was not the problem. If we went heavier run we would have gotten absolutely murdered
Don't know if he's made his decision and is saving his body for the NFL, but it's clear he doesn't want to run...at all. Don't think he pulled the ball back a single time on the zone read today even with nothing but green ahead and the entire defense collapsing on the tailback every time. Stands in the pocket WAY too long with nobody open when he could have easily scrambled for yards, even throws the ball away on the roll-outs instead of trying to get a couple of yards. This loss wasn't on him by any means, lots of blame to go around...dropped passes, unbelievably dumb penalties, bad play calling and ongoing clock management ineptitude played a much bigger part. But...when he's not aggressively running the ball it makes us so much easier to defend.
He was getting a ton of NFL love heading into the season but the hype has not panned out. Is his NFL stock really that high right now? He has been mostly awful this season. Wildly inaccurate with a lot of turnovers. Unless you draft him purely on “potential”, I don’t see how he is anywhere near a top pick at this point. If he goes in an early round he may have one of the worst resumes to do so.
We needed him to take over. We aren’t good enough to win without his legs. Those runs would’ve kept drives alive and our defense off the field.
Do you remember that one good run by Johnson for 30 yards or so that got called back because of a late hit/unsportsman like conduct penalty by our center? That run play was out of a set (11 personnel) that also had our receivers spread out wide. The rest of the run plays were from a bunch set. I noticed it, and was hoping that someone in Napier's army did too. Maybe we should look into running from different formations in the future. Just a thought.
Most commentators can see we do better out of 11 or even 0 TE, for both running and passing. Both our RBs and AR do much better in space. The passing game is far more dynamic when we have at least 3 WRs running routes (not the stand behind the line of scrimmage kind). Why Napier runs 12 in bunch makes no sense at this point. It is clear the team is much more effective in more spread WR oriented groupings
Going into yesterday's game, I wasn't "convinced" about AR's intentions, or his legitimate prospects as a first-round draft pick. But after the game it's apparent, to me at least, that he isn't playing no holds barred, do whatever it takes to win FB. Whether it's an unwillingness to sell-out on every play (ala Tebow, Wuerfel, etc,.) in order to preserve himself for the draft, or ongoing issues with situational awareness - something is amiss. To be fair, he certainly didn't "lose" this game single-handedly. With the exceptions of the passing yardage and the punting, we were flat out awful. This was a team loss if ever there was one. But he just seems to be too "risk averse" do whatever it took to win, and that is not good. I frankly won't be surprised if he declares for the draft at any moment. And just as frankly, I'm not sure it wouldn't be best for all concerned if he does.
AR: Coach, I am heading to the NFL next year, but it would be great if my passing stats were better, because NFL scouts and GMs are too stupid to do their own homework. Can you help me? Napier: Sure, I didn't recruit you and I am still on honeymoon. We'll get you your stats, whether we win the game or not. AR: Thanks coach! Yeah, that happened all right. Can we at least TRY to discern rather than have nothing but conspiracy theories? Please?
He has said AR has the choice. AR waits late in the game like the last drive against Utah to go all in. I don’t think he likes to get physical very much but tgat is how he is most affective
I did think he had one of his better games passing and the early drops were unfortunate. If BN's half time comments that AR had the option to pull the ball is true, then AR undermined the running component of the game plan, shutting it down (for he and the RBs) much more than the Vandy D.
Well said. If he isn’t laying it on the line, move on to somewhere that he will. You can’t play to not get hurt…. Well unless your Tom Brady but he clearly isn’t . He needs to get dirty to be what he can be.
AR has the choice on the field, not Napier. Napier could call straight runs by AR but he gives the qb the choice. If AR is protecting himself, it is what it is. It would look bad in Napier to go with 20 qb runs every game. Seems he’s leaving that up to tge qb and we see the choices being made on the field.
Offense is currently hurt by lack of a TE as well. Our TEs are slow and can be covered by LB. Not a threat. Might as well have another 300 pound OL in the game. Unless we get portal help, we may actually be worse next year. No ILB that has instincts to stop the run, no TE that is threat or can get open in the passing game, and no QB that is gifted in RPO to help confuse d and open up attack currently on the roster
