Everyone wants AR to run more but I just don't think a heavy running QB is part of BN's offensive philosophy.

Looking back at ULL under BN his QB never ran more than 350 yards in season.

We know Kitna and Miller are not run heavy QB's and going forward, the 2 incoming QB recruits, Rashada(approx 300yds this year) and Stokes(400 yds) are not either.

2024 QB prospect DJ Lagway, is probably the closest to a Dual threat QB.

AR is sitting at 588 yards this season.

Richardson may be the last dual threat QB we see in a while.

I'm fine with that. If the offense is balanced run and pass, there will always be a weak spot in the defense without running your qb and potentially getting him hurt.

When your qb has a read, and there are no defenders on the outside yet we handoff to a RB going inside. Repeatedly.
Houston, Houston, does this thing work…..

Exactly! How is it that he doesn't see the parting of the sea and he still hands it off.... unbelievable.

    So…
-AR is unable to make simple reads, and/or
-AR is unwilling to make simple reads, and/or
-Billy is unable to coach AR on how to do something HS QBs across the country can do, and/or
-Billy is unwilling to coach AR on how to do something HS QBs across the country can do, and/or
-Billy calls the read for AR in advance, eliminating that pesky “read” part, and/or
-Billy refuses to play a backup if AR is indeed unable/unwilling to make simple reads

None of these scenarios inspire a lot of confidence moving forward.

Starting to think maybe his lack of run attempts (AR) is that he is in self-preservation mode.

Just think we are riding the margins and execution (missed reads, bad throws, drops) is killing us. And then their is the other side of the ball.

If that’s the case, he can self-preserve on the bench. That’s on Billy for allowing him to go rogue.

FWIW, I don’t think that’s the case. I think AR is unable to make these simple reads, and there isn’t a read to make because Billy calls the reads in advance. It’s a “read” in name only.

The reason people want AR to run is that he is not a consistent enough passer to make the offense work. He either needs to run or allow the next man up.

Yep, and that's why I'm giving a bit of a pass on this iteration and holding judgment for the moment.

A new coach can temporarily build a system around the QB he has or just install what he wants to run long term and take the lumps now. Looks like we are getting the latter which is probably the better strategy in this context. It sure isn't fun to slog through for anyone and we'll see if it pans out for Napier in the long run.

    Bingo

imo you see two things occurring protecting/elevating stats. Number two we have a “working” shutdown to preserve/minimize injury. Especially if next friday is indeed the EOL for AR in the orange and blue as stated elsewhere on this forum.

Unfortunately, it's likely the coaching staff thinks AR is the best chance from a pedestrian group, and with one game left it really doesn't matter.

That said, it better be a wide open competition in spring ball based on what we've seen this season. Sadly, it's likely that an answer at QB still won't be on campus at that point.

Not sure his NIL deal with Gatorade is tied to being on the field vs sideline.
Obvious have no idea but it could be a contingency in deal if not injured. No idea.

AR doesn’t get to decide if he’s the starter or not. Billy does.

Saying AR is only playing so he can get Gatorade money makes absolutely no sense… if that were the case, might as well start finding a new HC now.

Wouldn't matter. NIL deals come from 3rd parties. The coaching staff is not obligated to play unproductive players.
I believe the contracts are reviewed by legal for contraindication to university policy or university deals(we are Nike can't have a player wear Adidias) coaches don't sign off on them.

No one is arguing who has the power to proclaim a starter other than the head coach.
That said it should be looked at if payment for services rendered is tied to being on the field/play time (if not injured). I have no idea but maybe? I don't know. Just thought.
