I'll never forget that night 2 years ago. Terrifying. I refreshed this page and twitter constantly, looking for any updates and expecting the worst. I hope Key finds joy and happiness, with or without basketball.
Well this almost certainly confirms it was a heart issue unless an underlying condition sent him into an arrhythmia. A Defibrillator will only be used if someone is in Vfib or Vtach. Also Afib with RVR (rapid ventricular response), afib alone isnt life threatening if managed but it becomes a problem when the heart rate runs too high and eventually will result in vtach/vfib/arrest. Also might be the reason they never cleared him here if it was some freakish event like R on T phenomena because they may have never found the answer as to why it happened. R on T is basically the heart repolarizing at the exact wrong moment so to speak so that it sends the heart into Vfib. Hate to see him at another program but I understand why and will root for him. Had this happened in any number of other scenarios he most likely doesn't make it because early electricity is critical to recovery from cardiac arrest depending on the cause.
I will always be left wondering if him never playing here again was based on doctors or lawyers. Regardless, I get the apprehension, just hate to see him elsewhere, but will root for him as if its O and B.

There were a lot of programs and coaches who were legitimately nervous… not due to liability but Key’s safety. White, Darris and Jordan are all head coaches… Key isn’t playing for any of the three. Sometimes being too close to such an event makes it difficult. I bang on Florida sometimes for certain decisions… but on this one, I get it.
Key wanted to remain a Gator. Key obviously cleared medical or he would not be playing now - anywhere. I just hate it for him and UF that we dumped him in a CYA scenario and now he is kicking a$$ for someone else.
I wouldnt go that far 1969 because pressure, criticism, backlash from the public is a real thing. The last thing any school's administration, including athletic director, would want is massive backlash from their school's supporters, especially if this means any kind of decrease in future revenue from these supporters.
