For the people who think the US is so awful: World Cup in Qatar has added no BEER sales to their rules: Their existing rules for fans •No homosexuality (3 years in prison) •No sexual relations with non wife •No drugs •No taking shirt off •No short skirts •No protesting (5 years in prison) Sounds like a groovy time.
Yeah that's terrible. The US is still awful in it's own way. They might not even win a game in their group
World Cup mens…my favorite sporting event. Even better than college football. I will be up early 5 am for many matches. Throwing a couple parties to watch big matches too. I am pumped.
I’m not a big World Cup watcher. I’ll root for the US and watch their matches but couldn’t care less about the rest. I just thought these “rules” were crazy. Why would they have the event in Qatar if this is their welcome wagon?
I wouldn't be too sure. At least on paper this could be one of the best US teams in quite a while considering the number of Americans on the team who also play on the best club teams in Europe including teams in the English Premier League, LaLiga (the top Spanish League) and the German Bundesliga.
The World Cup should have never been awarded to Qatar. The fact that it's even being played there once again illustrates that FIFA is probably still the most corrupt organization in the world overseeing a major sport.
I think we know the reason the World Cup is in Qatar. There was really no valid reason for having the World Cup in Qatar. Start with the idea that it could not be held during summer months when 1) Professional clubs were not in the middle of their season, and 2) there is little other sporting competition going on. Not to mention the massive human rights issues with having to start totally from scratch on stadiums and accommodations and how the workforce required was treated. You could pull off a World Cup in the southeastern US almost immediately as those things are already in place. Now the opening gets to compete with NFL sunday and the middle of the NFL season. No beer sales?...that is way over the line.
I guess that mean Ainglish hooligans will be rather subdued. Looking forward to the world cup though. Sad some of the best players, and traditionally best teams didn't qualify but still a pretty stacked tournament.
FIFA is corrupt and Qatar only got the WC because their oil money greased many a FIFA official's palms. And now the games are about to start, my guess is we'll see why Qatar should have never been awarded the competition. Back in 1994, Brazil was headquartered in the Bay Area, CA. And despite being home to Cal Berkeley, and hosting Super Bowls, N. California was not prepared for the influx of Brazilian fans. Somehow the month went on without any major incidents, but there were plenty of minor ones all throughout the area. These same fans are now going to land in Qatar, along with crazy fans from other S. American and European countries. Something has got to give. Americans and American LEOs can temporarily look the other way in major US cities for a special event. Can the Qataris? As for the USMNT, we're the youngest squad out of the 32 countries. And have a grand total of 1 player with WC experience (Yedlin). If we get out of the group, that's a major success. Anything after that is gravy. I just hope we don't bomb and go 0-3. Any kind of run would be nice, but we're a team/country that should be looking at 2028 as our big chance. Core will be in their prime, with experience, and playing a WC on home soil.
I guess I’m pretty liberal on this point. I don’t care how another country wants to treat their own people. It’s their biz. Now let’s play ball!
Half the English team will be in a Qatar prison before our match with them (they will be wearing One Love bands) and well Wales will have half of their team injured (they old) before we play them on Monday.
