He is a narcissist. He wanted to get out of the deal but was forced to buy the company, so now he is throwing a temper tantrum the only direction he can - at the company he is resentful of probably.
His ego will take back over soon, he won’t want to be seen as a failure so he will start to make smarter decisions, Question is whether it’s too late at that point.

My speculation, but part of if is he is used to dealing with hardware engineers at Tesla and SpaceX. The job maeket isn't as robust for them, so he can treat them like shit and they won't leave. At twitter, it's all software engineers. They can find a new job yesterday.

Twitter closes offices until Monday as employees quit in droves

Hundreds of Twitter employees are estimated to have decided to quit the beleaguered social media company following a Thursday deadline from new owner Elon Musk that staffers sign up for "long hours at high intensity," or leave.

The departures highlight the reluctance of some of Twitter's 3,000 or so employees to remain at a company where Musk earlier fired half of the workforce including top management, and is ruthlessly changing the culture to emphasize long hours and an intense pace.

Musk took to Twitter late on Thursday and said that he was not worried about resignations as "the best people are staying."

Given the industry, the "best people" have other options and make better decisions. Without a doubt in my mind, they are the first to go.

Yep. Plus, at Tesla and SpaceX people were working towards incredible, difficult, industry-disrupting, humanity-furthering technology. Succeed here and you punch your ticket.

At Twitter, you're building a SM platform that now wants to allow all the bad parts of SM...

    They aren't even remotely comparable.

Musk shouldn't have made a business decision while smoking weed. He would have been better off paying the $1B breakup fee.

Twitter is set up to lose money with Tweeps getting an average salary of $273,000/year plus massive benefits including:

Just how it sounds. Take as much as you want as long as you get the job done. Two huge things to consider:

    - you only get as much time off as that particular company's culture allows. In some places that's not much - others a lot. It just is what it is.

    - *** employees don't accrue PTO so employers don't have to pay for accrued PTO when they fire you.

So it actually gets money off the books for the employer and doesnt meaningfully change the amount of PTO your employees take.

Wait, the average Twitter employee makes upwards of $273,000 a year with all these cushy benefits? But Musk treats them like shit?

No wonder he is acting this way. It sounds like he’s perfectly willing to pay those ridiculous salaries and benefits to employees who want to stay and EARN it, but he’s also happy to see employees walk who’s hearts are not in the job and he saves $273,000 a head. That’s a no brainer for any CEO.

If you’re going to make a $273,000 salary regardless of the amount of PTO you take, then it wouldn’t make sense for an employer to have to pay you out for unused PTO upon separation. You would have been paid the same whether you were working or on PTO.

If you're "working" from home, does Twitter know if you're actually working or on PTO posting on THFSG?
