Is Herschel Walker's character in question? Would his questionable character stop you from voting for him?

It's going to be an interesting run off. On the dem side, they already control the Senate so showing up to vote isn't as critical as it was last week.

On the pub side, they were just demoralized, I don't think very many people are excited by the idea of Walker being their Senator. I think a lot of people just voted because he was the R and there was a chance that flipping his seat would gain the Pubs control. Still, there were 200,000 voters who voted for Kemp but not Walker.

Will either side pour money into this? If it is a low turn out race, it probably favors the pubs.

Both sides will dump money into it. The Democrats want to not have to worry about Manchin for every single bill and appointment. On the Republican side, I suspect that it will weirdly be a battleground between Trump and the establishment folks about who really controls the party.

I think Warnock strolls to victory. There’s an indie who got 2+% of the vote and most of that will accrue to Warnock. If Trump tries to insert himself into the runoff Herschel will get annihilated. Great news for America!

After doing some further research, I agree Walker’s character is questionable and I would not vote for him. I’m still not completely sold on Warnock’s character, as he had a wife who once felt badly enough about him to accuse him of trying to run over her. They were only married 4 years and Warnock didn’t get married until he was 47. Which means he was likely having lots of sex outside of marriage, yet he serves as a reverend. I’d like to know more about their divorce as it sounds like there may have been some violence.

In any case, I confess Walker’s dealings are concerning and enough so I would not vote for him after doing further research. Seems like the GOP could have found a better opponent in a state like GA, but I know Trump had a part in pushing Walker to the fore. All the more reason the GOP needs to rid itself of Trump.

I would rate this post as unintentionally hilarious if the emoji existed.

Sex before marriage - not good IF he preached about abstinence outside of marriage but I’ll not condemn him for something I recall with such fond memories.

I just assumed he would be against sex outside of marriage as a baptist preacher, but I could be wrong. Do you have any linkage on Warnock’s ex supporting his candidacy this year? I’m not concerned with Walker’s ex as typically the ex is going to be jaded regardless. Would be interested in learning about the support this year for Warnock from his ex.

Read it in a tweet but can find no evidence for it now. Edited out that claim.

Walker was picked to draw some of the black vote from Warnock. With that being the goal Trump could have picked someone else

Understood. I do think Warnock will win, as Trump continues to sully the brand.

Just saw my first TV ad in Jax for the runoff. I guess to hit the South Georgia market. It eviscerated Walkers character. Ouch

Race was probably a secondary consideration to Trump's obsession with celebrity (see his selection of Dr. Oz in Pennsylvania as another example). Herschel Walker won the Heisman and was undoubetly UGA's best football player in the lifetime of the overwhelming majority of Georgia voters. Herschel also played for the NJ Generals when Trump owned the team and Herschel and Donald were apparently friends long before Walker considered entering politics.

In previous posts I suggested that if control of the Senate was off the ballot in the Georgia runoff, Republican leaning voters who voted for Herschel Walker solely to give the Republicans control of the Senate will stay home. Similarly, a lot of dark money from Republican/conservative superpacs that would have flowed into the election will probably remain on the sidelines saving the residents of Georgia from an onslaught of vicious negative ads attacking Warnock. Although the ads will not go away there will be far fewer of them than there would have if control of the Senate was based on the outcome of the election.

I think the stakes are now a bit lower for both sides, although Manchin will have more power if Walker wins. So I think it still matters.

Somewhat off-topic for this thread the Senate Democratic leadership would be making a major mistake if they try to diminish the role of Manchin. If Joe Manchin feels that that he is being ignored or that the interests of his constituents in West Virginia are being ignored he still has the option of flipping to the Republican party. That possibility should given him as much as leverage as he would have as the one swing vote.

If Warnock wins then they don't need Manchin. He's not going to switch though. The GOP is already planning to spend money in WV to campaign against him.
