Yep ... Bowl games are a crapshoot. Myself, for the bowl game the Gators would be going to, I'd like it if CBN treated it as a preseason game for next year. Play all the young guys.
I think ET wrapped it up nicely in his bullet points. I'll add my usual 2 cents! One thing that is very apparent is if you just look at the morale of the team vs last year. Kids are having fun again. They are inspired. And, they are winning now. Last year the team was pretty listless towards the end of Mullen's tenure. The kids we have are improving. They are getting coached up. They are tackling. We have a fabulous class coming in and certainly potential surprises there as well. Gators are swarming like there's chum in the water. Go Gators!! Win out!
Way to ho out on s limb. Ask 200 gators fans - vast majority will say same thing. May not be easy and could be battles
8-4 is the objective goal indicating we beat FSU as an underdog. 7-3 is the threshold goal meaning we won the games that the statistics indicate we should win. Compared to where we were immediately after losing to LSU, I think the Gators are in a much better place to win games as underdogs.
Richardson is protecting the ball by not throwing any unnecessary interceptions. I believe that is a subtle step forward in his maturity at quarterback. In his past, AR has been averaging multiple turnovers a game while trying to make a play downfield. That did not always put Florida in the best position to win the game which is utimately the bottom line. By reducing the turnovers or not even having any turn overs, that increases Florida's chances for a victory. AR has now gone four straight games without throwing an interception: vs LSU (0 int), UG (0 int), TXAM (0 int), USC (0 int). As a result, Florida is beginning to look like its old winning ways self. Previously, AR had thrown at least one interception in five straight games: UK(2), USF(2 ints), UT (1 int & 1 fumble), EWU (1 int) , and Mizzou (1int). Wrong. He is playing scared money as these possible interceptions would most likely be a punt with no time left. He is not giving his WRs a chance to score a TD which is what his coach wants. At least this game, he didn’t throw it out of bounds to the sideline like he did vs A&M.
Much will depend upon the continued improvement of AR. He has had some luck with missed interceptions and continues to miss open receivers. NO QUESTION that he has shown improvement and continues to be a physical presence. I want to see this team play this well on D against a good opponent. I will be mildly surprised and overwhelmingly delighted if we beat FSU this year.
Only time will tell But UGA will take a step back, UT will take a big step back ... there's a real chance
Decent but they’ll stack the line against us. AR has to be a threat running and we have to stop their running game to win.
It's possible, but circle that FSU game. It's on the road and it's a massive rivalry game. FSU has already drowned Miami and they want Gator tail for dessert on their way to state domination. And they too have started to put it all together lately.
BS on on AR wanting to protect his INT stat. Have you considered that he did not see the entire field? (AKA not seeing the open receiver) or that no one was open? AR is a young QB that was not given the QB coaching that he should of received as a Freshman. He is still learning the game. BTW, his TD pass in the second half was a thing of beauty. Next year we will see an AR that will have open receivers and have a better vision of the field. This kid will grow, do not bet against him.
FSU should have lost to LSU. The end of that game was garbage. If FSU had lost, we’d both be sitting here with the same record. We’ve lost to 3 top 10 teams: the current #1 and we almost beat the current 6 and 7. We beat Utah the current 13. FSU’s schedule hasn’t been near as tough and their one big win could have / should have been an L. I agree the holes are playing well and I’m worried, but if we play like we have recently we’re going to dog them. They’re definitely benefitting from having an ACC schedule. Let’s please take care of Vandy first. 7-5 was my preseason expectation. Beyond that I’ll be stoked
Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Beating Vanderbilt is of the utmost importance! I say we focus on that!
Every time we lose a game the 5-7ers come out of the woodwork . I said before the season we had a very reasonable shot at 8-4 regular season. That record does not require beating any good teams. I’m not predicting we win 9 games but it’s not unreasonable. Beating FSU isn’t earth shattering . They are decent, we are decent. Utah is the only impressive win we have but that’s the nature of a college football schedule, there’s only a handful of games each season that mean much. The rest is just entertaining to watch your team get free wins.
8-4 difficult? The only thing involved is beating fsu. Several teams already beat them. Not a guaranteed win by any means but I’m looking forward to beating them.
I like us on the road at Ron Zook Field - we travel well with running game, low penalties, no turnovers ... fsu has got the athletes but still going to make plenty of mistakes seeing double when we punch them in the face.
I'm going with what BN said. "It can all disappear tomorrow". Everytime I get excited thinking we've turned the corner and have an amazing chance to win the rest of our games, we lay an egg. So, I love the enthusiasm, and will just watch each game, hoping for more of the same!
