It's all Josh Allen's fault. It took him a couple of years, but now the GMs think anyone with over the top physical talent can come in and play. Most under graduates just aren't ready. They just haven't learned to make the most of their talents.
Who was the best team Trey Lance played in college? Maybe Youngstown State. It was crazy that he got drafted in the first round with his experience.
AR has the potential to be one of the best ever, if he learns his craft better. If he goes to the NFL this draft, I think he will be out of the league in 5 years or less.
He just signed a $1m NIL deal. Maybe that helps the calculus for the good guys EDIT: Looks like he's just signed for over a mill this year.
Enough FCS and lower-tier FBS QBs have been successful the last decade that I think it doesn't matter to the NFL.
So I re-watch the games the week after, and I specifically watch the pass plays and try to diagnose them. AR does NOT read the field well. So many picks and almost picks and throws into triple coverage happen over and over again, yet he has guys wide open in other parts of the field. He locks in over and over again. I completely agree he has the potential. If he learns to begin to read coverage better, he could be an all-timer. But the place to work on that is here- not in the NFL. Because there's a great chance he will either start too early in the NFL, OR sit on the bench with no reps. Added to that is the NIL money he can make now- and it's a no-brainer. He definitely should stay, develop, and try to be a top 5 pick after another year.
I do think that. We agree- he absolutely needs more experience. UK I think was his 3rd game as a starter, but even now he only has, what, 10 starts total? And one was vs. Eastern Washington- hard to count that. He just needs another season.
So what's the goal... being a first round pick or being a successful NFL qb? You are correct, it doesn't matter what I think or you think or anyone else thinks. It only matters what some NFL GM thinks. So, I guess we need to wait and see what happens. Look, I hope the young man does well. I think it is fantastic that he won the genetic lottery and has the potential to be an NFL player. I just think he needs more time to learn the game. If he can do that on an NFL team great. And I think a team can pick him up and begin that process. All I am saying is I have a hard time believing any NFL team is going to pay first round money to a guy that, so far, has not consistently shown the skill set required for an NFL qb.
The key discussion point made on 1010XL is that NFL scouts have seen enough to make a decision even if we the fans want to see more. This aligns with what Denny Thompson said earlier about NFL scouts wanting 300 pass attempts to evaluate because AR just reached that mark.
I hope he stays. I really do. But most guys need an extra year in college to developed physically. AR doesn’t need that and when it comes to QB development he won’t get any better help than being in the NFL. My overall point is this: as gator fans we have different viewpoints and goals than college players and NFL teams. We assume things based on our college fandom when in reality it’s much different. I don’t think Will Levis is a first rounder either but watch him go first round.
Sorry, but from what I've seen of AR, I don't see anybody taking him in the first round. 55% completion percentage, 9 passing TDs, 7INTs and he hasn't yet shown he can reads defenses. He's a great athlete but he's really not even a good QB. I really like AR, but even if he plays the way he played at A&M, I just don't see any NFL team seeing him as anything more than a "project" right now. Another year of learning to read defenses and having a stronger receiving corp around him should make him a considerable more attractive pick.
Interesting; I remember little chatter about Tebow from NFL scouts yet Gator fans were assured he was a future HOFer if given the chance. Here we are again countering what the NFL chatter seems to be…. Yet there was one NFL GM whiling to spend a 1st round pick on TT. A the rest is history
Valid, but Tebow was an amazing team leader. Tebow really ended u being a pretty poor 1st round pick when all was said and done because of his QB skills.
I can see someone taking him in the 1st round (think of GB's pick a couple years ago), I just don't see much if any success after that. If it isn't slowing down for him at this level, it will never slow down at the NFL level. Then again, I never thought Jaylen Hurts would do anything in the NFL, but look at him now. That said, he had a lot more reps in college than Richardson.
