Shorter than O, I’ll post notes soon.

    • Forgot to mention James’ new Jumpman T. Out with the polo 10 pack!
    • No 3-4 out of the gate.
    • Marshall running Achane down impressive (let’s forget the 65 yards for now.) Achane is a track star. Marshall calmly chases him down.
    • No edge set early. TD does his job staying with QB, Achane casually strolls for 6.
    • TAM immediately copies UGA bunch set, but we do lineup properly this week. Unfortunately everyone is inexplicably back-peddling on a pitch, 10 yard layup.
    • King has hideous windup. M2M. Our most-targeted DB gets it again, although he’s actually in decent position. But King’s ghastly delivery is right on the money, 3rd and 10 converted (but not just given away.) No Perkins on this play.
    • Four guard two on 3G. Neither of the two is the RB who goes untouched. Miller throwing his hands in the air in exasperation before RB even gets to the GL.
    • Both LB’s cover RB, neither looks at TE. That dude catches more balls in 1H than the rest of the season.
    • TE runs a literal pick by adjusting route to hit DB, WR gets loose for an easy crossing route.
    • King misses two TD’s on one play on FG drive. We had right alignment but two guys played bad leverage.
    • Stewart open on hitches all day. King missed him over and over.
    • Both LB’s get schooled on another Achane chunk. This is where Burney being a square peg shows. UGA LB’s just kamikaze pulls and traps to stuff the blocker and clog the lanes. Burney tries to finesse it and it results in holes. Max effort, just not max LB savviness that you get by seeing that a million times.
    • Stewart runs a filthy pivot route and breaks Marshall off. Stewart is legit.
    • We actually play the last TD decently despite the 3 DL, but Achane snakes through.
    • Perkins makes another case for PT by showing presnap outside leverage, jumps inside at snap, maintains it and there is no window to throw to. First stop of 2H.
    • Hill sets the edge, VM beats OL to the gap, stuffed.
    • Marshall makes a nice play despite being in a 1v2 spot, pressure makes King throw a desperado throw, S also breaking on the ball. Stop 2.
    • TD NOT beaten on long Stewart completion, that was a C2 beater on C2. We did however once again have two guys guarding a flat RB.
    • Simulated pressure gets home, TD makes good decision to jump the short route. Deeper route was open but next to impossible for King to hit it with dudes climbing his building.
    • C2M, Burney is decent but his guy gets a little room but throw is off. M2M making a low percentage thrower hit precise passes and he can’t. Good strategy.
    • Stewart again runs NFL route (slant) and is wide open, good throw, but 12th man (ref) makes a great play and knocks it down. Stop 4.
    • Tre’vez draws the target again, again pretty solid, but Moose brings in a good throw.
    • Princely dips on five man rush with M2M behind it. Fumble. Stop 5.
    • Four DL. Bring a 5th. M2M behind it, with Perkins. James has entered heaven. Powell gets home, Big Play Burney on the spot for the pick.
    • Stop 6.
    • TD comes down hill on TE intermediate route, just misses the break-up. But another good read and made them earn it.
    • C2M, Tre’vez gets another target. All five cover guys are locked in. Not a great ball but TJ is all over it anyway.
    • C2M again, JH gets away with a hold, but nowhere to go.
    • C3, Marshall does the Extreme Bail AGAIN! TE wide open. But King has read the other side where coverage is great, chased by Powell, desperate bad throw on 4th down.
More man, more four DL, more pressure, more Perkins. However, NOT a lot more of any of that. Basically TAM played (typically) bad but UF didn’t self-destruct.

Sounds like had TAM had a good qb we would have been toast. I am surprised that after so many games our dbs remain confused. It was said that there was no scheme change but it sure looked to me that in the second half we did more blitzing and more pressuring of the qb. That seemed non existent in the first half.

The biggest question really is did our D play a lot better or was TAM offense with non starters that sucky? Maybe it was both.

The defense allowed 24 points & 300 yds in the 1st half. Against the same group of TAMU players in the 2nd half it was 0 points & 100 yds. So the defense definitely did what it was supposed to in the 2nd half, now they just need to carry that over to next game.

Def more of the changes, but not a lot.

    Flu bug def a factor.

F QB might’ve hit more. Maybe a lot. But also a F. King missed throws but he also didn’t go Full Young’un. Fancy 5* may have not handled the duress the same. King actually avoided some baaaaad mistakes that were there for the taking by a less experienced guy.

More than anything, our mistakes were football game mistakes, not WTHamIwatching stuff.

I did highlight Marshall bailing on the C3. But mostly he was in sync. TD had been solid two games now. Burney finds a way to be important. Cox wasn’t missed. Perkins totally schooled King with a leverage trick.

And Stewart is a nightmare. A lot of their O was him being nutty. No shade to a DB struggling with that cat.

Would be awesome if with all the tamu transfers Evan would come back to us. I thought he would be a Gator

He’s legit. He ran nasty routes top to bottom. Hit Helm with a go-stop-go-stop. Set a Percy foot on a pivot route against Marshall, caught it full stretch and kept going for 25. Ran us ragged all day for hitches, a known problem, King missed a bunch.

And TBC, I like our DB’s in man. They are solid. Helm isn’t a ball hawk but he’s rarely dusted. Marshall has been dinged by this C3 thing but he’s still good in man. Stewart is so good that his own QB couldn’t work it out.

    So yeah, portal sounds GREAT.

I’m with you. How many upperclassmen on D are getting playing time? The young kids are doing well. Billy is finding out who wants to be here or not. Our young secondary is excellent and if we keep the incoming recruiting class together it will be even better.

I chalk up Marshall etc mishaps to learning scheme, which catches heat but the more I study and understand it, the scheme on D isn’t the issue. At least in the way it’s evolving.
Not meaning to get lengthy again but in college almost no one can line up in cover 1 man every play, so coordinators have to mix it up to keep O’s off balance. But, the challenge becomes getting 11 youngins on the same page across more than a handful of D formations. With many of ours being fresh or soph… that’s tough.
Give us some time. I like where we are headed
