The fact that we don't yet know the results in so many elections in the US, in this day and age, is totally embarrassing.

if you want the results sooner, allow the mail in ballots to be verified and sorted prior to election day. The delay in allowing the mail in ballots to be verified and sorted originates with republican legislatures doing that to sow doubt since results will be delayed.

Would you approve of opening, verifying, and sorting the mail in ballots prior to election day to help decrease the time required to compelte the count?

The new Congress doesn't start until January. It's not a big deal if we have to wait a few days to make sure all votes are counted.

The longer it takes the more doubt it raises. We don't need that. Mail-in ballots should be counted ahead of election day so results can be finalized quicker.

Some states don't require mail-in ballots be received by election day. In fact, many of them do that for military ballots. Others do it broadly for all mail-in ballots. The ballots merely must be postmarked no later than election day.

So yes, I agree that we should count mail-in ballots before election day. But that won't necessarily solve the problem. Nor is there any legitimate gripe that we should "doubt" the results because they take a few days.

Arizona allows early ballots to be dropped off on election day. These are called "late earlies," and are the last to be counted. Why? Because they need to be signature verified, which takes time. In the past, there have been less than 100,000 of these ballots, and most races had large enough gaps that the late earlies couldn't change any election outcome. But as mail-in ballots became more popular, the more late earlies the state has received. Right now, there are 600,000 late earlies to be counted in Arizona.

Right now, Kelly has a 95,000 vote lead over Masters. Masters would have to win 55% of the outstanding vote to overtake Kelly. Highly unlikely. 400,000 of the votes still outstanding are from Maricopa County, where Kelly is currently running +8. Next largest batch is Pima County, with 100,000 left, where Kelly is currently +24.

Local Republicans in Arizona are holding out hope, because in 2020, the late earlies broke for Trump. However, in 2018, the late earlies are the votes that put D Sinema over the top in her Senate election. And most pundits see the 2022 late earlies breaking more blue this year because in 2020, the pandemic caused a number of Rs to request an early ballot, which they dropped off on election day. That didn't happen this year.

Anything can happen, but I would be very surprised if Arizona isn't called for Kelly today.

In the governor's race, same ballot totals, but Hobbs' lead is only 13,000. Going to be much closer.

Regardless, someone please cue Petty. The waiting is absolutely the hardest part.

Good info, there. I tried looking at their county level data myself and didn’t see a path for a comeback, but their county data may not include mail ins. That win would be great and make Hershal Walker mostly irrelevant … although the Dems having a vote to offset Machin would be nice.

Good, lol. I don’t associate myself with election denying trash bags like Kari Lake. We know you love her, though.

If she wins, lol, hopefully she’ll take out the trash. It seems there’s a bit of it in that state.

She IS the trash. She’s a completely awful human being who should be nowhere near Congress. The good people of Colorado shockingly might vote another one of her cohorts in Boebert, so we can only hope Arizona has the same common sense.

If she loses and the election is still way too close to call she will have plenty of times to literally take out trash bags although my guess is she will have a very lucrative job waiting at Fox News although even that isn't a sure thing considering that the network appears that it wishes to separate itself from her mentor with the orange complexion.

At this point we can call it based on the remaining ballots and where they're from. Mark Kelly will remain in office
