Many MAGA cultists believed Trump's BS that Covid was no worse than the flu and would magically disappear. So they didn't take proper precautions, like social distancing, wearing a mask and getting vaccinated. They died needlessly.
How many times are you going to be wrong on this? Just because there was a pandemic didn't mean to shut down businesses, schools, require masks that had zero RCT studies showing they work and forcing vaccines on kids. Just next level stupid. FL handled the pandemic just about as well as one could hope for. It's why DeSantis crushed it in the election. Anyone arguing otherwise is either obtuse or an idiot.
LOL. Trump is a guaranteed loser in 2024. I don't want him anywhere near the ballot. Your "saved the republican" person might run independent in 24 if he doesn't win the Rep nomination ensuring the Dems win in 24. That isn't good for any REP. Sorry to burst your bubble, but trump is an A-hole of epic proportions and is a terrible person. Not fit to be President.
John Ganz with I think a pretty accurate observation They already are on the road to establishing one-party rule in Florida, where they rode the coattails of would-be caudillo DeSantis. The Florida governor is actually much more of an Orbán than Trump ever was: he actually commands majorities, he is a bit of a thug but a much more low key, stable, and methodical one, and he can appear like just a plain ol’ conservative while actually standing for a tougher form of domination. The more bookish side of the reactionary elite already prefers him to Trump as someone more effective and reliable.
Lol, I don't disagree with that he would lose, and you aren't bursting my bubble with your comments I just don't agree with you
Yes, I'm extremely thankful that Trump was our President, and that your woman Hilda beast never got elected
I voted for democrat Jim Davis when he ran against the once Republican Crist. They don't get much slimier than Charlie.
I don’t believe that DeSantis kept Florida’s economy any more open than did governors of other states, but he did kill a lot more people and gave long-COVID to a lot more people.
There’s a little Italian restaurant near me in the Forest Hills area of Tampa. It’s called Magdalena’s. Maggie’s dead from COVID-19. She was about 50-years old and healthy. Telling your constituents that you don’t need to wear masks, and you don’t need to get vaccinated might be good politics in some places, but it’s not good government. We still would have had people die or get long-COVID if we had a responsible governor, but we need to give DeSantis credit for killing 40,000 or so Floridians.
In Amash's case, it is. I have nothing against him personally. He seems like a principled guy. But the vast, vast majority of this country want nothing to do with libertarians in charge.
Looking at history, we should conclude that the vast majority of this country only wants democrats or republicans in charge, but I wouldn’t trust that this trend extrapolates forever.
Prove that number. After vaccines many many people got CoVid and many older weaker people still died. The whole mask thing is a joke at this point. No difference at all except to emotionally harm children. Did anyone tell people … you don’t need vaccines? Did De Santia warn people NOT to get vaccines? Or did he fight the mandate.. telling people you HAVE to get the vaccine…. Which again did not stop the spread, just lowered the severity if you did get it.
I think DeSantis was a bit of a mixed bag on vaccines. I think he supported them but was worried about alienating his base, many of whom didn't trust them or were reading conspiracy theories about them. Even Trump was uncomfortable navigating taking credit for them when many of his supporters refused to take them. When things got bad in Florida, DeSantis stated that 95% of people being hospitalized were not vaccinated and pushed them publicly. Anecdotally, the people I know who were hospitalized or died were not vaccinated. I get issues with mandates, but DeSantis didn't even want cruise lines to be able to determine their own vaccination policies. And he wouldn't say whether he got a booster, saying it was a private matter, etc.
DeSantis does this all the time with issues he finds controversial among his own base. Another obvious one is abortion. Crist really wanted to make a big issue out of abortion in the debate. DeSantis vaguely mentioned that he supported 15 weeks being the line once, and never really mentioned the exact policy he supports again. His record speaks for itself regarding these issues, but he seems to make a point to not let his opponents take clips of him that will alienate segments of his own base.
how many people died in Florida? (Answer: You'll never know because the state hid the numbers) also, nobody knew at the beginning of the pandemic how bad it was going to be, you remember we were all disinfecting our groceries outside? That's how it is with novel viruses, so taking extreme precautions at the beginning is not exactly a bad idea unless you just don't give a shit about killing a ton of people. In the US we manage to kill more people Then almost anywhere else in the world, so it's fair to say that you can't really call any particular states policy "successful"
