Too much emphasis on QB’s that measure 6’5 with a howitzer arm and run like a scalded bird dog. Being a great athlete and passer doesn’t always translate into being a great, or even good QB. Bob Griese led the Dolphins to 3 Super Bowls and won 2 of them. Dan Marino was possibly the greatest passer in NFL history but he was definitely not a great QB. Took the Dolphins to one and got shellacked. I understand someone thinking Stetson Bennett’s success is in part because he is leading a team full of great college players, but I also feel like he is a tough, resilient football player and is deserving of any accolade’s he gets.
The days of 6’5” statues are gone. Kyler Murray is 5’10”, Russell Wilson is 5’11”, Jalen Hurts, Baker Mayfield and Tua are all 6’1”. This isn’t about his height as much as it’s about his ability. He’s good in that he can extend plays but he needs to put up better numbers if he wants to get NFL attention.
SBIV shouldn’t win the Heisman and won’t get drafted. He did outperform Bryce Young last year and delivered a Natty. May do the same this year. He’s leading the team of the college he grew up loving. Sometimes that’s enough.
