Mike Leach Expresses Frustration With MSU Players For 'Eating Fish Sandwiches' With 'Fat Girlfriends' In TTU Call Back Despite the victory, the 61-year-old head coach was not happy with his team’s performance. During the second half, he had a not-so-friendly conversation with his wide receiver group and then went down the sideline folding up every chair and throwing them aside. The luxury of sitting must be earned. Leach expressed his frustration after the game and used a unique analogy to do so— one that he admitted might get him in some trouble. He talked about his players wanting to “eat a fish sandwich and drink a lemonade” with their “fat little girlfriends” instead of playing hard.
Leach is a known quantity at this point. I think anyone getting pissed at him for being exactly the same guy for decades now is a damn fool. None of this is out of character. If you didn't want it, you shouldn't have hired him. I like Leach, and I enjoy is dry humor and candor. I just hate that when something like that BS Adam James story comes along, people immediately assume it's true because of course it is. Mike Leach is just so unhinged! Texas Tech is damn lucky that they are covered by sovereign immunity under Texas law because they would have been paying Leach some money after the facts of all of that came out. Unfortunately, all the things I enjoy about him make him very vulnerable to crap like that.
I wish Leach would find a defensive minded head coach who would let him do nothing but score in every way imaginable. He is an offensive genius and college fans deserve more of his offense. Don't squander his time with petty things like defense and recruiting.
He’s perfect for miss state. Pretty irrelevant. Wins 1 or 2 games every year that they shouldn’t, but that's about it.
He made the same fat girlfriend comment at TTech. personally I think it’s wrong. Insult your players all you want, insulting young women who have zero to do with anything on the field is a cheap shot.
Leach is a helluva guy. At Texas Tech he got in trouble for locking players in a wooden shed on the practice field for those he thought was lazy. Then at Washington State he taught a Pirate History course. I saw a clip online and the class was jam packed. He would rattle on about the peccadilloes of the Queen Anne's Revenge or the Golden Hinde with total ease. He's also the coach that cost UT's insane AD Currie his job. Went on a cross-country spree desperately trying to hire a coach and somewhere around 10-12 declines he found Leach who was ready to be the Vols next coach before the chancellor got some emergency meeting to suspend the AD before he signed. Vols ended up with Pruitt, but the fun would have been all the same.
Why do all his players have fat girlfriends? Everyone else has guys “overachieving” in that department. I feel like this is a coaching issue.
Except that never happened. What did happen was Craig James getting Leach fired for treating his entitled ass of a son (at least back then; no clue if he grew up a little in the last decade), Adam James, well, mostly like someone who said they had a concussion.
Yup. If his players want to bang fatties, why does that affect the product HE puts in the field? And what’s he got against fish sandwiches?
