It’s getting a bit ridiculous to see these schools charge the field and put so many at risk. Some of the videos are disturbing. Student athletes should be able to get off the playing field without being harassed and provoked.
Are you referring to something specific? I think storming the field is a great college football tradition. I've yet to see a player get punched or assaulted, maybe I missed it.
Does seem almost every game is a storming the field game now, 10 beating 6 should not be a storming the field moment.
Easiest answer to storming the field is make it an automatic forfeit of the game if fans storm the field. How heartbreaking would it be that a team missed a bowl or loses a championship because the fans rushed the field.
I guess, but it never occurred to me when I was in college. Seems a bit over the top to me. Of course I never wanted to run up on stage during a rock concert either. To each his own I guess. It's not like the fans actually played in the game.
It’s fun. You’re only in college once. Be a little dangerous. Drinking at a tailgate and then driving home is actually a lot riskier and I don’t see anyone up in arms about that. Ever go to a raucous concert? It’s dangerous down there too. Yeah, it’s obnoxious and harassing players/coaches isn’t cool but it’s 3-5 seconds of your life. Cops everywhere to escort you out. Nobody is getting killed. We gotta stop being so stodgy. Life is short. We are constantly worrying about rules/laws/punitive measures for micro seconds… a Little punk rock would do us some good.
you sure? UT once LSU hardly an epidemic. 14 SEC teams, 6 home games. 84 games. 2 of these I wont yell to get off my lawn or begrudge this exceedingly rare event its just 1 tiny thing that makes CFP different and memorable
I was on the field when my FSU buddy stormed their field after beating us in ‘96. I did get to pat Danny on the shoulder and tell him good game. A security guard told me that it was too dangerous for opposing fans to be on the field so he escorted me back to the stands. My FSU buddy handed me some of their sod for his own personal “sod cemetery.” That’s the only time I’ve ever stormed the field.
I understand why Tennessee did it, don't understand why LSU would. I don't really care either way, I do subscribe to the "act like you been there" it's been 20 years since Tennessee was there so, whatever
When’s the last incident of players getting hurt after fans stormed the field? I don’t seem to recall any. It’s college football…do we have to neuter everything?
LSU should tell the SEC FU. There is no evidence of half M harm. Just a bunch of friggin stuffed shirts and their church rules. Screw the league officials. The schools make the conference, not the administration.
It's all fun and games until someone pokes your eye out! Do it in the Swamp and university police will tase you. Of course we have to win a big game. Go Gators.
When SOS was coach, we were ranked #1 and lost at Mississippi State. They stormed the field. Some stupid redneck SOB cold-cocked one of our equipment managers. Knocked him out cold and gave him a concussion. The reality is, someone can get killed by a punch like that. Spurrier was pissed, and really poured it on the next time we played MSU.
I stormed FSU’s field in 82 after Bob Hewko led us to a come from behind win. We even got one of their goalposts down before the cops showed up.
