So he hedged his entire opinion on AR making a run at the heisman instead of an entire roster. He was way wrong I guess. Maybe AR is that guy next year that gets a team an extra 3-4 wins that we wouldn’t have had otherwise.
I thought they seemed more aggressive and aware yesterday than in previous games defensively, especially in the 2nd half. One thing about this team is they never quit, and I really like that about them.
And I know only two things…. I know you know everything else. Nobody but you are allowed an opinion because you know it all
Lsu has had a magical season so far. They also almost lost to auburn, one of the worst teams in the sec. And when they play Georgia, which ps still isn’t written in stone they’ll have another loss. I know it’s weird to say this but the east is the tougher division this year. regardless an impressive season so far. Lsu overachieving at this level doesn’t mean Napier isn’t the guy. I mean hey maybe he isn’t but lsu has nothing to do with it. Ironically kelly might not be the guy at lsu. If we’ve learned anything a single seasons results doesn’t tell you much. Especially in year 1.
Okay, Ill bite: 1. Kelly is more experienced and a much more established/polished HC than Billy is at this point. To argue otherwise is pointless. But to suggest that BN can't grow into a great HC himself is extremely premature and quite unfair IMO - or to use your word, perhaps a bit disrespectful. 2. Respectfully, if you try to look at yesterday's CRUCIAL UF ROAD VICTORY in a slightly more positive light, you may recall that ATM still has a significantly deeper, overall more talented roster than a UF team that had three regular starters out due to injuries or dismissal from the team. For good measure, throw in the absence of one of the crown jewels of the '22 class due to shoulder surgery (Devon Moore) and the fact that we got good to great play out of several young players who stepped up bigtime - which with one exception, ATM did not. 3. Turning again to your angst over the LSU situation; admittedly, BK struck it rich with the acquisition of Daniels in the portal and he has shaken off a terrible first-game loss to go on to a great first season. But FTR, BN didn't exactly fall on his face in the portal either when he brought in our #1 RB, our best OL, plus the most polished, effective WR on the team. Also, although it's been a struggle at times, AR is apparently developing better than virtually anyone thought (myself included) coming into yesterday's game. I would also remind you that ETN, (along with several other younger players) isn't exactly languishing undeveloped on the bench either. 4. IMHO, your assertion in another post that BK walked into a "far worse situation" than Billy did is just flat-out wrong. During 12 years of steady decline into mediocrity at UF, LSU has beaten UF on a frustratingly consistent basis and has established itself in the eyes of the nation as the clearly superior program by doing so. It's also worth noting that even with the roster shake-out that occurred at LSU after the Kelly hire, they still entered the season with a roster that was universally considered to be more talented and better rounded than ours. 5. If you must compare BN to another coach, just remember who he is replacing. Perhaps that will make you feel a little better.
Nick and Bama have been demystified. It started with Dabo and Meyer. But even then it appeared that Bama was an every other year champ. Now we’re beyond that and asking if Bama will be back.
This years bama team just isn’t very good, but it still 2 miraculous performances to beat them. last years loss was because Jameson Williams went down and they were gutted with injuries and WR. Give them one quality WR this year and they would have been a different team on offense. They have been on a historical run at at WR position, eventually you will miss out and not develop a few players as expected. That’s what’s happening. Even as bad as their OC play calling has been, give them one go to WR and Bryce would be a different player. He looked off yesterday for sure. He through so many balls short and to the wrong spot. yet - it still came down to needing to make a stop twice and the lsu qb gutted them. Not sure why bama didn’t have a player spying made no sense.
That in and of itself does not make LSU in a much worse situation than FL. Did you consider accounting for the players who transferred in?
JUst my 2 cents. Dabo, Saban...very good coaches. Their records speak volumes as does their recruiting. But... you can only be on the top for so long. Times have changed. NIL$, parity... Georgia might be the new top tier program. I hope not for long. LSU could be too. But really, like always, a handful of super great player's makes the difference, like always, including a sick QB. Prolific passers that can run help. Good defenses are a must. Good coaching is a must. If you remember, Georgia had good, even great talent for 20 years and then with Kirby came along they finally put it all together, after 6 years. It was apparent watching that Tenn/Georgia game the difference in talent. If AR stays and continues his improvement with some new kids coming in the future looks good. The future looks good anyway. One thing is playing to your ability. The other is having better players playing to their ability. We have kids breaking out already. Add some to the mix...it's all good. Took Kirby six. Hope we can do it in much less time. Beat SCe. Go Gators.
The great Miami and FSU teams and Georgia start and end with awesome players on the line of scrimmage. All of those great skill players they had would never have had a chance without those guys. Bama is still very good, just not awesome.
I agree with some of your points. Justin Shorter’s career day on Saturday probably wouldn’t have happened if aTM had their full compliment of defensive backs but him setting the SEC record still counts. Similarly, Cox Jr might not have had those three sacks, including the one that sealed the game in the fourth quarter. Kamar Wilcoxson might not have defended so well against their starting lineup. Ziperer might not have caught that TD against a full-strength defense. It is what it is, the teams like up with who they have available and Florida having all of its starters was just good fortune.
To get back to the original topic about Bama losing 2 games in one season...where Saban used to go buy all the players he wanted (under the table) now when he goes shopping he sees Dabo, Kirby, Jimbo, that hack from Miami and others all pushing their shopping buggies through his express lane.
