Gators Victory Over Aggies Marked a 'Pivotal Day' for QB Anthony Richardson
Billy Napier believes Florida's win over Texas A&M marked a "turning point" in Gators quarterback Anthony Richardson's career.

Gators Victory Over Aggies Marked a 'Pivotal Day' for QB Anthony Richardson

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- It's been a volatile season for Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson. He threw for 453 yards to keep UF in the game against now-No. 2 Tennessee, compared to just 66 in his next SEC matchup against currently 4-5 Missouri.

Richardson also turned the ball over in each of Florida's first six games.

    He hasn't since.

Richardson kept the ball away from the opposition against a now-top 15 team in LSU, the No. 1 squad in the land in Georgia and again on the road when the Gators defeated the Texas A&M Aggies by a score of 41-24 on Saturday afternoon.

“It feels great," Richardson exclaimed about his lack of turnovers after the win. "A lot of those things is [me] just doing my job. Just trusting everyone else and trusting them to do their job."

I’m an optimistic realist. Yes, Napier is learning on the job, but every coach is. Saban is learning and adapting constantly.

I have no issues with Napier and his ability to build a competitive program. What I’m questioning right now is that fire, that competitiveness, that light a fire under someone’s ass. I think we will field a competitive team that all Gators will be proud of. Can we win sec and national championships? We will see, but would love to see more fire from Napier.

I agree! I know very little about the finer points of coaching football, but have coached baseball and basketball at the high school level. And that was many years ago. So I know that athletics have changed greatly. I coached basketball before the three point line! lol However, I thought our defense played with greater energy and were in spots where they could make the plays needed in the second half. Also thought our quarterback played more confidently!!! I sometimes forget that he is a first year starter in the SEC!

Yea, not only a first year starter, but an extremely raw quarterback as far as learning to play the position. We are watching the growing pains. He made some strides today, but accuracy is still a big issue and just the nuances of quarterbacking he doesn’t have. It will come with more experience if he can continue to improve.

Wasn’t the Houston DC a hot commodity during the off-season? 4-4 SMU put 56 on Houston tonight, in the first half. He should’ve struck while the iron was perceived to be hot and jumped to a bigger gig.

I do agree with you. You can be the smartest coach with X’s and O’s, but if not be able to motivate your players, then you are wasting your time. Coaching is having talent, motivating them to prepare and to give their all for the team and lastly, putting them in positions to be successful. I put that last because I learned as a coach a long time ago, It is about the Jim’s and the Joes, not the X’s and O’s!

He is better of the edge, not as good between the tackles as Etinne and Johnson

Yes, but to from starter to not getting any carries is curious.

It is, but Johnson was one of Napier’s guys so that’s not a shock really.
    Etinne came in high recruited.

They are both backs more suited for Napier’s style of running so it marked sense.
Wright got carries but just doesn’t seem like the bruiser style of back he’s more of a Demps/Harvin type runner.

We all see that. It was just that Nay’quan was talked about as a 4D player that knew what everyone was supposed to do. There were articles of him getting others lined up correctly and stuff. He got in the doghouse for whatever reason.

I saw some excerpts and he didn't seem to be upset about the game or particularly concerned about the direction of the program. Now for the strange part, I want to avoid making inappropriate comments about a guy when he's down or any untoward suggestions, but...has Jimbo always spit out words at a rate that would do a machine gun proud? I mean, the dude was acting/speaking like he was jet propelled. The gusher of gab was really kinda' weird. It was like he had been hitting the Red Bull a little too hard or something.

I don't like a senior that talented like him not getting playing time but it Johnson and Etienne look like they are better.

Nothing against Wright personally, but I think Napier has enough data on him now and his numbers are significantly lower. It is hard to justify taking carries away from ETN or Johnson for Wright. There were quite a few last year that wondered why he got so many carries with Malik and Dameon here. I think Lingard probably would be a better to get carries than wright.

I agree with you on Napier, that's not to issue. To me he has to get the assistant coaching staff on his level... or he needs to rearrange his staff.
