I think the point of running the story many, many times is to sow those seeds of fear. They then get taken to a logical conclusion of candy being handed out. I do think the razor blade stories are good comparisons and a few decades of hospitals xraying candy, etc……. The difference being the frequency that the story was run. Media these days are good at mimicking. Every new host that cones on wants to get in on the action. Dovetailing into an existing narrative was perhaps coincidental?
We can’t talk about multiple problems? Again… vast majority of gun deaths are not mass shootings or at 15’s. Yet that is the talking point in all news channels. Fox News brought up the candy fwntynal in October because it was candy fentanyl… and Halloween is a time when kids go to strangers houses and get candy. We have been for years to check the candy for razor blades. To check for prescription drugs. To check for thc gummies. No one thought the drug dealers were handing it out… bit that random sickos would be. Domi think fox has a political slant and a political basis? Yes. Do I think they want to connect it to the open southern border? Yes. Do I think it is silly for adults to be complaining that Fox News warned their audience that this is something they should be on the look out for? Yes What harm was done? Parents spent a jfew extra minutes checking their kids candy for suspicious stuff? Oh no. The horror. Or people are tired if the drugs flowing acrosss the horse? How terrible. But hey.. manufacture your outrage.

I am not a fan of Fox, but a quick google search is easy enough. Fox reported that a sheriff in SD warned parents to look for colorful pills (not in the candy). The article goes on to report that the drug dealers use candy packaging to smuggle the colorful pills into the states. I had never heard this before. The worry sounds reasonable to me. Be cautious and protect the children. No caps, no excessive exclamation points. Parents should be ‘alert’ for colorful fentanyl pills on Halloween, unlikely to be found in candy: sheriff
Now you're strawmanning. Of course parents should check their children's candy. Nobody is stating otherwise and a friendly reminder from your news program is a fine idea. But scaring people with fentanyl when there is no credible threat is misinformation. Why not warn about MDMA? It comes in different colored pills, too. Why not viagra? Flintstone vitamins? Cyanide lacing? Roach killer? Many of these can be dangerous and can be slipped into your kid's bag. The difference? Evil illegals trying to kill your kids.
So to be clear Fox News said that evil illegals would be handing out the fentanyl to kids? Or Did they say that Fentanyl is flowing across the open southern border…it is.. That the fentanyl looks like candy.. it does And that it could be handed out to kids at Halloween.. it could. As for all the other drugs.. pretty sure we have had decades of warning about those other things. Prescription drugs, razor blades, LSD on kids stickers, all of it.. maybe not the raid. There were even pamphlets sent home to parents on how to check candy. Hospitals opened up and offered to X-ray candy. It’s not new.
We were very diligent when my daughter was little about thoroughly inspecting her candy to make sure to remove anything excessive and potentially dangerous, which often required random testing to ensure quality. We were brave, testing the candy on ourselves first. Parental love
Speaking more broadly about fentanyl the stuff is apparently so deadly in small quantities that just the amount coming in to the US is enough to kill the global population several times. Despite that in a country of 330M if you aren’t taking drugs of the street you’re safe Back in the day I hoovered coke, I gave it up long ago but if I were still inclined to do it I’d not because of the fentanyl risk. Likewise I wouldn’t take a random pill and while I partake of the MJ from time to time I get it from a dispensary. If I’ consumed more I’d grow it. I’df you want to reduce fentanyl in the US you have to address demand. I have a libertarian bent but not enough to legalize everything . My reasonable proposal? Relax somewhat rules around opioid restrictions and drugs in general. My mom for instance has nerve pain for which she takes OxyContin. Has been for years and she has to show up every 30 days and take a pee test. She’s. 80. That’s nuts. Also because of said pee test she can’t take MJ (which might help). So n general I’m a big Meh when it comes to fentanyl.
A few MJ gummies won’t kill a kid and more than likely not even your dog (cats are too smart to eat them).
