See if you can tell the difference: In 2019, that city's police department issued a warning and CNN, apparently accurately, reported that warning about THC edibles that could be confused with regular candy. There's no indication if that story was aired or just on its website. In 2022, Fox news warned at least 80 times on air that people might intentionally put fentanyl candies in children's Halloween bags in order to harm them. Even that the cartels were producing this stuff "just in time for Halloween." This is despite a DEA administrator going on Fox and explaining that they have seen no connection at all between fentanyl and Halloween. What do you think? Anything look different?
I get a good laugh reading through these threads as the regulars on Too Hot go against the evil Republicans even on topics as trivial as Halloween candy. The bottom line is that any responsible parent should go through their kids Halloween bags checking for anything “unusual” and it has been that way for years. But I’ll wait to have Orange Coop tell us that there is something racist about Halloween candy and then for Gator Lawyer to give us his legal breakdown of the situation.
Actually, isn't the thread about Fox News and its fearmongering dozens of times about something that isn't actually real? Even blaming it on Biden. You're the first one who mentioned Republicans.
Up until this year razor blades haven’t been found in candy either but we have been warned every year since I was in elementary school. Drug cartels sis in fact make fentanyl that looked like candy. It’s not a stretch to think that it could be handed out to kids. Warning parents about it isn’t that bad of an idea.. Of course if you look at everything through a partisan lens…
It's a bit fallacious to trivialize this issue as "Halloween candy". We're discussing misinformation and fear mongering for profit. As far as "evil Republicans", it's more like "evil right wing media" and "gullible right wing viewers". "trivial as Halloween candy"... SMDH
I have no doubt they have a partisan angle. No doubt. But this idea that they shouldn’t have mentioned the possibility because it never has happened is asinine. We have plenty of examples of warnings about what “might” happen or could happen. Razor blades In The candy Getting under our desk at school in case of a nuclear attack. what is sad is that there is an adult (assumption) complaining that a news show brought up the possibility of a devastating drug that looks like candy being slipped in to a kids candy bag. Why is the adults upset? Because the news show was right leaning FOX. How dare fix bring it up over and over before Halloween that this is a danger we should be on the look out for! How dare they! Or is it because they connected it to the drug flow over our southern border? Does FoX news have the purest intentions behind bringing it up? No Does the adults complaining about it have pure intentions? Nope.
What was the misinformation? Was fentanyl made to look a lot like candy - yes. Could it have been placed in a kids truck o treat bag - yes If fentanyl flowing across the southern border -yes Is it deadly - yes Is it some… another thing … parents should be aware of and check for? - yes
FYI, Fox didn't 'mention the possibility.' It was brought up at least 80 times on air, including saying the cartels were producing it 'just in time for Halloween.' Was it brought up here for partisan reasons? Probably. Most things are. That doesn't mean it's trivial or wrong to bring it up. If DeSantis or Crist say they want to resegregate schools, the person who starts the thread here will almost certainly be from the other side of the aisle.
This story was nothing more than feeding the narrative of the insecure border and fentanyl coming over by the backpack full. Folks no most drugs come over on ships, semi’s and cars, right?
So FOX News said that people were in fact putting this in kids candy bags? Or that people would absolutely put this in kids candy bags? And yea, the pictures and news that fentanyl was being made to look a lot like Halloween candy did come out in early October… and yea .. it was just in time for Halloween. Did Fox News say threat the drug cartel was makeup the candy fentanyl with the purpose of fooling kids into eating it at Halloween? I heard their coverage and all I heard was frustration that candy fentanyl was in the streets just in time for Halloween.. not that the drug cartels were making it purposely for Halloween.
Hmmmm I’m that same vein I guess we shouldn’t worry about mass shootings and ar 15s since most gun deaths are suicide or gang related shooting and done by pistols? Or Maybe we have an open southern border that needs reform from security to laws to green cards.. and the fact that fentanyl is flowing across the border and the fact that it is made to look like candy and the fact that all of this is happening in October… right in time for Halloween…
Funny thing about smugglers, they might hide drugs in something, but it’s almost like they want to recover said drugs. Some data points don’t connect even though they sound good. Much like Fox and news
Well on the shootings we have data on probabilities amongst different areas. Hmm same with the candy, one shipment or many? Logic can be applied to both points
Well that's a logical fallacy chain. Anyone know the name of this tactic? Authorities stated there's was not credible threat of random drug giveaways to trick or treaters. Right wing media warning otherwise is misinformation and fear mongering. So just stop legitimizing how this story played out. What's amazing to me is folks believed the conspiracy theory that drug dealers will covertly give drugs to unsuspecting children from their own front door. That's a weird and risky business model.
If it’s not the main fear or main way gun deaths occur why should we worry or bother… just like if the southern border isn’t the main point of entry for drugs why should we be worried about it… right?
Hmmm And we have been warned for decades about razor blades in candy… and it has never happened UNTIL this year We have been warned about THC gummies/ candy and it never happened… until this year. Should parents not be aware of the danger? y’all just finding something to be mad at Fox News for and are really stretching it thin.
oh I think there is a disconnect … no doubt. Fox News said that drug dealers would be handing out the candy at Halloween? Or would be smuggling it in candy bags? What exactly is your point?
