Was thinking about this thread recently because of AR still getting mentioned in these lists. It really made me realize how far off Rattler fell, though. What happened to that guy?
His throwing motion changes depending on the situation he’s in, from what I’ve noticed. If he drops back and sets his feet right, then locks in on a receiver, most of the time it’s a effortless frozen rope that has all the scouts drooling. When that doesn’t happen though he tends to flick the ball while he’s off balance. Even then, it’s incredible the arm he has. He also has this almost sidearm throw he makes sometimes, mostly on those sideways throws towards the boundary.
Hooker is a good qb. Mature qb. As in, he’s almost 25 years old. He’s older than Tua, Jalen Hurts, Justin Fields, Trevor Lawrence, Justin Herbert. Hell, he’s only a three months younger than Lamar Jackson. Man amongst boys literally. I’m not saying he’s not a good QB, just saying he’s got a bit of an upper hand right now.
It seems like the age thing might ding him a bit. To be honest, I'd draft Stetson Bennett, too, but not as a franchise QB mostly due to the age.
As James DiVirgilio pointed out in his podcast, Stetson Bennett is an extremely efficient passer against zone defenses. He can pick them apart. But his passing statistics and QB rating tank against man defenses. NFL defensive coordinators will know this, and man defense is all he’d see in the NFL. Which is why he won’t be drafted very high, if at all.
Hooker is in an elite college offense that doesn’t prepare him for the tight windows and tough reads in the NFL.
Undrafted. With a chip, working on another. The differences from HS to college to NFL are almost inexplicable to most fans.
Was this written in June 2022? Outside of physical attributes to suggest AR is 1st round material next year is insane.
His asvisors would be doing him a huge disservice if they urge him to go NFL this year. He’s so not ready.
Heck, he's a solid portal pick up away from not starting for us next season (although I doubt Napier goes this route). That is how not ready he is.
I hate to say it, but I agree with you. AR has some serious deficiencies as a QB right now. If he doesn’t get better, we need someone else leading the offense next year.
Same as pee wee mang, ain't no difference. I asked Charlie Pell, in person, at a Gator Pep Rally - Coach what differentiates winning and losing football? He put his hand on my shoulder, looked me in the eye and said: Son, that's a good question. And the answer is simple, no matter what level the game is played: Blocking and Tackling son. BOCKIN AND TACKLIN.
Today was a step in the right direction. Not perfect but I think this version of AR is the best we got so far
