You're confronted with the choice of being idealistic and basically not doing much in the name of "small government," which results in mockery from Democrats... or actually using your power to fight for your values in the same way Democrats do... which will result in tears and fear-mongering from Democrats.

In essence, you can't win with Democrats, so stop trying to impress them. Republicans should fight for their values. They don't have to take their opposition using government as a blunt instrument against them, then crying "but you like small government" when the shoe is on the other foot.

 

'Holding the line' sounds like another way of saying managing the status quo to me. In general, Democrats pitch technocratic expertise and more functional state agencies via "good governance", while Republicans more or less aim for the opposite. They both pitch giving the military and security apparatus more money than it asks for.

 

When Reagan exploded the gov in size & scope, what values were they fighting for? When Trump took over $800,000 from tax payers for each welfare job created, what values were they fighting for? When Trump made NAFTA more socialist, what values were they fighting for?

I don't think either of us believe that they were doing those things for "shits and giggles."

I also don't think Republicans always think government should be small, I don't think Republicans never believe in welfare, and I don't think they never believe in government spending. Politics is about drawing lines and balancing interests.

If you're angry about welfare and socialism, I can only imagine how much you hate Democrats.

I think that is a good pt. & one I have thought about. My dad was a AUH2O pub & I bought in to that. I bought into Reagan. I still have a pic (in my middle school yearbook, no less) of me at a Reagan rally in Jax. I believed in a true conservative ideology. In 1990, I left the pubs behind & have never voted for 1 since. They left me & I realized they were lying big gov clowns. Reagan's record speaks for itself. So, I have always had more anger for pubs. I never gave a damn about dems. It's kinda like why I would rip my kid a new one if he/she ran the stop sign by our house. I would not rip the neighbor's kid a new one though.

 

The DeSantis ad is creepy af.

 

Biden and several Dems are just as guilty of plagiarism... all these politicians use other people's words.

i recall Paul Harvey decades ago on the radio. One time I was taken aback when he was talking about the virtues of rural folk and then basically said everybody that lived in cities was going to hell.

 

Biden was guilty of plagiarism of some sort back in his first presidential campaign in 1988 I think, it got him in hot water and tanked his candidacy. I think he probably learned a lesson.

 

The ad is unhinged. These guys don’t even try to tone it down. They just come out and say they are put on the earth by God implying they are a prophet of sorts, and the sheeple lap it up.

The more I see of Ronnie D the scarier he is. He really seems like he has an authoritarian complex.
