“People are tired of the hate, tired of the anger, tired of the fear, tired of the division, but you need leaders who can go into an environment like a Fox News town hall, as a Democrat, and say 'Look, we've got to love each other. We need to care about each other. We need forgiveness, we need reconciliation.' ... It starts by leaders going into those environments and saying, 'I understand you have concerns let's talk about them,'" Ryan said Thursday.
“We have so many two-time Trump voters who are not for the insurrectionists and aren't for all the craziness and insanity. But they are voting for me because I am talking about the pocket book issues that they care about," he said.

Here is a guy who seems to have nothing in common with many, not all of our TooHot libbies.
I don’t hate some of his ideas and he is at least trying to get some pub support. Imagine that.

What's the point of this? Isn't he losing to a right wing, election denying, divisive, hate monger? You got to give the people what they want, and it isn't love and forgiveness...

Don't give him credit for actually changing here, he is just trying to get re-elected so he can keep Dems in power in the senate. If elected, he would go right back to what he was before and vote with Biden as always.

I avoided this thread because I was sure it was started in order to mock Ryan. Happy to see I was wrong. Hope to hell he wins.

Tim Ryan is at least thinking outside of the box in his attempts to win the election. It is a commendable srategy, whether he believes it or not. Sadly, I think he loses big because his group of "so many two-time Trump voters who are not for the insurrectionists and aren't for all the craziness and insanity" is not nearly as large as he hopes or needs.

Further, all Trump stuff aside, the cultural divide in this country is as large now as it has been at any point in our history since the 1850's. I don't know that a centrist, unity candidate can bridge that gap.

Before you make claims like this, you should probably check his voting record. Tim Ryan is a moderate in a world of extremists. Further, your post just made my point as to why he will never win a state level eleection.

Thanks bluke. This is the kind of sentiment I would like to see spread. Perhaps he is doing it just because he wants to get re-elected, but anything any politician says might be for that reason. At least this potentially artificial message is a nice one.

I took your advice and checked and the source I used said he voted with Biden 100%, check yourself next time. All talk and no action it appears to me. Now if he was actually elected, then proposed moderate legislation or didn't vote lock step with his party, then I would be impressed.

If "unity" means fealty to all things Trump, many of us will pass.

Don't you have to already be a Senator in order to get re-elected in a Senate race?

Crazy Vance and he are running for Portman's seat, who is retiring.

    2 scenarios:

Ryan is running in a reliably red state and needs some crossover voters to win. He needs some number of Fox News viewers to be comfortable with him.

Biden as POTUS was decrying the environment that led to the hammer attack. Not an election focused speech.

But yes, kudos for finding a Dem you can talk about graciously.

Correct, I made a technical mistake not living in Ohio. The point remains the same because he has been elected before to the house, so has a voting record. He still talks a good game to get elected, but votes the party line like any other liberal Dem.

Here's another view of Tim Ryan... He's a Biden lackey. This Trump voter would never fall for this man's deception.

What makes Ohio US Senate candidate Tim Ryan a 'lying fraud': Senate candidate JD Vance

VANCE: This is a guy who, when he runs his scripted TV commercials, says that he wants to appeal to Trump voters. … And yet when he's unscripted, Sean, he's saying that we need to confront and kill the entire movement. … He's just a complete fraud. On every single issue, he has voted with Joe Biden, and yet he pretends in his TV commercials that he actually thinks exactly the opposite. And I got to say, Sean, he's supported by George Soros. He's got millions of dollars coming in to swamp the airwaves in Ohio and to lie to the people of Ohio. We need everything that we can get. … Because if we correct the record on this guy - if we actually tell the truth - it's simple, Sean. We're going to win this state because the people of Ohio are wise and they're smart and they're not going to buy lying fraud Tim Ryan.

I guess expecting you to realize that the world did not start a year and a half ago and actually go research his voting record was too much. Sigh.

But yes, you got me, for the last year and a half he has voted for sanity and opposed MAG-IT positions 100% of the time.

Thanks for making my point, he talks like he’s a moderate to get vote’s in a red state but he still votes like a liberal Dem. Am I missing something here?

I’ve thought it over and I’ve made up my mind. If I lived in Ohio, I wouldn’t vote for Tim Ryan. It was a close call though.
