I don't get it, but yeah lots of these draft projections still have him in the first round. Which is batty, imo. I can't think of a single NFL QB drafted in Round 1 with actual in-game performance like this. I've seen Trey Lance mentioned as a "potential" kind of draft pick, but that guy put up numbers in college. AR hasn't done anything. That said, if they're willing to do that, AR has to leave. But he needs to be sure they're really taking him in round 1 and that he's going to get time to develop because he is nowhere near ready to take snaps at that level.
I think he leaves. I’m not saying he should, but if things play out like I think (he plays well these last 4 games, we go 4-0, he looks good in the bowl game) then I think his stock ticks back up and someone convinces him to take the leap
I came into the season believing AR would make solid progress during the course of the season and quite possibly play himself into being a legit first rounder. And after the Utah game, I was pretty confident that he would do just that. Unfortunately, at this point, I'll believe he can play really well for four or five straight games and fully establish his first-round credentials when I see it. Don't get me wrong, I really like the kid and I still hope for the best. But facts are facts, and unless he starts to make great strides soon, it's hard to see that happening.
Nothing about the game itself makes me glad. I’m glad someone else remembers why we got smoked. But you understood that you’re just playing the troll.
That’s not really the issue. The issue is, he’s our best QB right now based on the metrics the coaches are using during the week. Miller’s thumb injury really set is back quite a bit as it didn’t provide us with a viable backup. That is until maybe now.
It’s one thing to point out how Trask struggled without his primary targets to prove a point, it’s another to be “glad” we got smoked by OU…which coincidentally was the beginning of the end for Mullen. Tell me again who’s the troll.
I wonder if my insurance would pay for having the whole Mullen collapse/debacle thing surgically removed from my brain.
People keep using that Oklahoma game as some sort of indictment of Trask or the receivers.. Seems a bit unfair considering how inexperienced the receivers were at that time as well as how much a passing game depends on timing and qb/receiver communication. No qb gets a new set of receivers and has timing and route communications down with a couple of weeks practice. That team had a coach who was checked out and treated the game as an afterthought. Look at the recent game tape and ask yourselves if Trask hits a wide open Pearsall? Shorter. Takes the check downs. Etc etc The plays have been there. Love the local kid and love that he seems like a good kid but his inaccuracy is worse than I ever thought was possible.
Yeah he hasn’t shown that he can string together some good games, but I think our schedule is about to really lighten up. He has a chance to take off on these weaker teams
I really, really hope you're right. But USF and Mizery aren't exactly world beaters either, and he stunk it up bigtime against both. Like I've said before, I hope the great leap forward in AR's game begins this Saturday and rolls on unimpeded from there. But sadly, I'll believe when I see it.
AR is a quiet leader it seems. Needs a little more spark. I’m sure running hurts at this level and I would caution against injury. A QB with an injury is a bad thing. Tim thrived on it but he was a brick house. Run when necessary and stay safe. I saw a CBS sports headline last week that showed Indy taking him in rd 1 mock. (I think it was them, sorry if not). I know it’s all bunk at this point for clicks but someone is still saying it. I didn’t read it. I have to give it to BN. He should have tried someone else by now but he’s sticking with it. Seasons winding down and folks are already leaving. Maybe a change wouldn’t be out of question. At least a few series?
How many times have you watched a play and thought "how did AR miss that throw"? AR seems to lack touch in the short and intermediate areas especially when the receivers aren't in front of him. I think he knows this and it creates a lack of confidence in his decision making.
As a note of clarification, I referred to the Oklahoma game only to make the point that a quarterback does need receiver's to run good routes to be efficient as a passer. In AR's case, receiver's are running good routes, he's simply not making consistently good throws. What's sad about this, he will stll go to the NFL and is NOT READY--NOT EVEN CLOSE!!!
I don't think anyone will straight-up beat him out either, barring the unforeseen of course. If AR finds himself on the bench, it'll be because he put himself there.
IF AR returns next year, Napier will have a dilemma--build for the future or instant gratification! Personally, I think AR would immensely benefit from being the next Kyle Pitts, but that's my own opinion!
