Keeping the tradition going. Thank you to gothamgator (still a member?) and @GatorLurker for carrying this on in the past. I will always try to post threads two days before tip off. Getting things going early for game one against the Stonybrook Seawolves, which will tip off Monday, Nov 7 at 8pm eastern. Here are the rules: Pick the score of each team, the MVG (most valuable Gator), and the SoG (stat of the game). There are no pts for Sog, so just for giggles. Mvg is determined by Value Pt Scoring (VPS). More on that later. Picks must be in before tipoff for eligibility. This is all inclusive, so if you miss a game, it's no bigee. Come back in for the next one. @fda92045 was last year's champ. Congrats! Scoring is as follows: Closest to the score = 2pts Pick the Gator score = 1pt Pick the opponent score = .5pt Pick the MVG (per Value Pt Scoring) = .5pt Sog for game one will be Riley Kugel pts. How many pts will our young star net in game one? My pick: Gators 84 Seawolves 61 MVG: Castleton Sog: 9
Here's a blast from the recent past: My post on the Gators vs. Seawolves last year: The Gators welcome Stonybrook to Can't Flip the Damn Camera Arena on Wednesday at 2pm EST. BTW - what on earth is a Seawolf? At any rate, Stonybrook is a program that has had some success in their conference and have made some tourney appearances. I don't think they are particularly strong this year (lost to KU 88 - 59), but they have always hosted a more-than-adequate music program. Beware the bassoonists!
I went to GWU as an undergrad. We played Georgetown. They would chant “let’s go Hoyas! “ and we would chant back “What’s a Hoya?” That was 57 years ago…..I still don’t know what a Hoya is.
Let the games begin. Gators 85 Wufs 70 MVG Castleton SOG 18 political commercials during the game. Kugel, 8.
Gators 82, Seapups 56 MVG: Will Richard SOG: 10 (BTW, I actually think CC will be MVG, but since everyone is picking him, my official pick is Richard. It's called strategy)
MVG will often not be the top scorer. Value pt scoring is based more on efficiency. Shooting % and avoiding fouls is important. The formula is: pts + rbs + 2(assts + chrg + stls + blks) - ftmiss + 2(miss + foul + to) Charge stats are not given on ESPN, so I include those from my own game observations. VPS scores can be really high against weak competition, but don't always favor the top scorer/rebounder. Typically the MVG scores in the 2 - 4pt range on VPS.
