He is an analytics guy, and analytics suggests 7-8 is optimal offensively, 9-10 defensively, and 8.5 overall (basically 8 + a defensive specialist reserved for matchups, like an extra big or a longer wing). He has said he wants to play 10 non-conference and 9 in league play, so I wouldn’t take that 8 number as some hard cutoff, either. But the analytics reflect how hard it is to get into a rhythm offensively when you keep coming off the court or you are afraid of being pulled for a bad decision.
