Why do you think rich people hire people to find loopholes.

Carter signed into law a windfall profit tax back in the 80's. Reagan repealed it several years later. It wasn't viewed as successful then as it lead to further dependence on foreign oil.

You are incorrect. When the US Government is not hostile to the oil industry there is plenty of capital available for exploration and start ups. When the government is hostile (ie recent Democrat administrations) there is considerably less interest from the capital markets to invest their money in that industry.

TBH, the old Al Gore “Big Oil” boogeyman has gotten old and very tired. Yet old and tired Joe thinks people are stupid enough to buy it. Some obviously are, but more people have opened their eyes in recent years.

The term “loophole” as you use it is ridiculous. They are not using loopholes they are using available, approved, and legal federal tax incentives. No different than people using available credits like Earned Income, Child Tax, and American Opportunity Credits, as well as interest and state/municipal tax deductions. Do you consider those “loopholes” as well.
