Last year Denny talked about AR a lot, this year not so much. That’s interesting, imho. One thing he said last year several times, that Dan’s offense was complex. I inferred that as AR was probably struggling to learn and play in it. This is not the offense I envisioned they would run this year with AR. I thought it would be more run heavy and outside RPO stuff with AR pushing 100yds a game on his wheels. It’s a bit square peg-ish and hard to watch at times. I still can’t get over the fact that he purposely chunked two 4th down throws out of bounds last Sat…QB IQ 101. AR is fortunate that he is THE guy at QB with no one right behind him with playable talent. Otherwise we likely would’ve seen them inserted many times before now and they could’ve stolen the QB1 spot. Mega athletic talent is great but at some point you’ve got to get past the point of being a project. Now doubt another year at this level could do him wonders. I hope it’s here, if not then on to the league, not another program, please.
All I know is I want our current WR commits to stay with this class. I am ok with wtvr happens with AR as long as it does not affect the class.
Back when Jack Miller transferred here, myself and several others said not to be surprised if AR was not the starting QB at the end of the season and we were scoffed at by many. I still believe that’s where we are heading.
Here's where I disagree with just a couple of things. Yes, our wr's are not the greatest but they do get open, and rarely drop passes. Our wr's cannot jump 12 feet in the air to catch high passes. If any qb is as inaccurate it will make both the qb and wr's look bad. AR is about 53 % of hitting passes and I can guarantee you that it's not because wrs are dropping the ball. Many times they are open but he's not finding them for whatever reason. I think we have good OL, their worst game was against uga but uga has a very talented line and great scheme. Up to that game our OL rarely allowed sacks. Whenever AR is flushed out of the pocket I think it's more of him either being too careful or having issues finding an open target. Franks did a lot of that being flushed out of the pocket but when Trask became qb, that was not an issue, he was decisive.
AR is the absolute least of our worries on offense. Patrick Mahomes could be our QB and our passing attack would still be mid
Understand, however isn't this ARs 3rd year? One would think he's gotten a lot of practice reps, played a number of plays last year and has started all this year without progress.
I don’t think people realize how regressive and ancient our passing game scheme is. There is not a single college QB that would put up great numbers with it right now. Heck give us 2 great WRs and it still wouldn’t put up great numbers. ARs mobility saves us from quite a few sacks a game. The staple of our passing game is super long developing routes that often end up 5v2 or 2v1 and 2v1. It’s insane AR has his issues too. But if Stroud was here we’d be better but still a middling passing attack. Heck if Hooker was here you probably wouldn’t be able to tell the difference
Just one question: Your email source has him going to another college program or the league next year?
Mock all you want I don’t care. Your personal comments are yours to make. Like I said I can back mine up.
Here’s a good read on what BN likes to do on offense. It’s not Heupel or what we saw with Mullen. He likes to run the ball as we have seen. Take from it what you will. The no scared money scheme? Breaking down Billy Napier’s play-calling and performance - Alligator Army
This is it for AR. He has the next 4 games to prove himself. It appears him and his family saw stars and $$$ at the end of this season and all of that blew up. No NFL team is going touch him in the draft. So..now we have someone who is coming back who did not plan on that. We will learn A LOT about AR in the next 4 games. Where his head is..does he read the tea leaves about his status with CBN. I 100% guarantee you that if he plays the way he has played all season in the first 2 games next season...he is riding the bench. He knows that, CBN knows and we know that. Does AR enter the transfer portal and go to a school with less heat to improve his '24 draft status...wouldnt surprise me.
Quite an overstatement here. I suspect the offense has been simplified for AR but that aside, there have been plays to be made. AR has made some and missed on a lot of others. Napier isn't Mullen or Heupel offensively but a good QB could certainly do well.
