You are aware that he was intentionally portraying himself as the right's version of a Democrat. Although I cannot speak for him I'm pretty sure that he was being facetious.
Conversely, some reasons to vote Republican. You believe that whatever the defeated former president says is true, specifically that he really won the election but for massive voter fraud and that even violence can be justified to remedy what was a great injustice according to him. You believe that curriculum which includes references to the history of slavery, Jim Crow laws, race-based lynchings, as well as other forms of repression against Black Americans is Critical Race Theory (CRT) and that those references should be scrubbed from the curriculum of every public school. You believe that the government has a legitimate right to interfere in personal medical decisions including decision between medical professionals and their patients whether the decisions concern the life and health of women or the treatment of transgender children. You believe that a zygote the size of the head of a pin or an early term fetus the size of a kidney bean has the same right to life as a full term baby or an adult woman. You believe that any limitations on the right to acquire firearms constitute an abridgement of the Second Amendment even if that position facilitates the acquisition of firearms by criminals. You deny that Covid-19 ever constituted a serious pandemic and that governmental policies intended to prevent the spread of the virus and/or serious cases are a form or governmental repression and implicitly unnecessary deaths are price worth paying for "freedom". You believe that Joe Biden is solely responsible for the rate of inflation including the high price of eggs and poultry attributable to the avian flu epidemic last spring, the price of a gas at the pump largely attributable to a decision by the former president forcing reductions in the supply of petroleum as well as the war in Ukraine and supply chain problems that existed prior to his presidency. You believe that there was no problem with the former president illegally absconding with classified documents from the White House and storing them at unsecured locations at his private club(s) and that the FBI should be demonized for searching his residence pursuant to a legitimate search warrant based on a showing of probable cause. You believe that liberals/Democrats are participating in a scheme to replace white Christian Americans of European decent with immigrants of color from third world countries and maybe even that Jewish Americans are behind the scheme.
Some issues I care about: I support the separation of church and state. I don't want more conservative justices on the Court, and it's already slanted relative to public opinion. I support de-criminalizing most drugs. I support people of the same sex having the right to get married. I support Ukraine's efforts and find the admiration for Putin disturbing. If we are going to cut income taxes at all, I think we should target them for the middle class. I think the federal government has a role in health care and don't think Republicans are serious about a plan to address that issue.
Catholics generally speaking can be reasonable people with a decent moral compass. I’d say it’s Better than a bunch of non-drinking baptists.
Right-wing Catholics are just Protestants that read books, I suppose that's why so many become judges
