I think many supporters have concerns. What the supporters have acknowledged is the sea change in structure, staff and vision that the last 3 trainwrecks have not been able to accomplish. Champs philosophy was flawed and the other two were lazy and disorganized. If you want to be critical be critical, there is plenty of reason to do so about the on field product. But you have to give credit as well and as many here have noticed you were leading the charge of detractors when the recruiting was looking bad early on and then never returned to at least admit it had improved when things started to fall in place.

I can't speak for all but I will say that he brought the program organization and structure into the modern era. He acknowledged the failures of the prior regimes which gives supporters hope that he will adapt in time. Sure it's a hope at this time and I'm discouraged by the regression on defense and lack of progression on offense but again, what purpose does it serve to constantly harp on only negative aspects this early?

And Mullen lead this train off the rails. It's mind boggling to believe he was ran out of here in hindsight given the stories of his neglect on the recruiting trail and apparent abandonment of the program after the SEC championship game. His handling of the bowl was totally unacceptable and a definitive change in message from when he first arrived. I didn't believe the NFL rumors initially but it sure looks like he tried to leverage that 2020 season into an NFL job and quit on the team when it fell apart.

He definitely brought some life back to a program that suffered some of its worst offenses ever and we were grateful for it but he did it with stop gap measures and never had any long term sustainable fixes.

First, I wish Cox good luck. He is an extremely gifted athlete.

As for his body of work; it is a lopsidedly mixed bag. He is very weak on the inside run. He can’t shed a blocker, He couldn’t stay home and set an edge if there was two gallon bags of buds sitting there waiting for him. There is one thing that he does well; Rush the pocket from outside wide.

As for his Sunday future, there are enough GMs in the NFL who scout by watching highlight reels that some one of those morons will sign him. Hell the Lions might draft him first night. But no team with good management is going to waste their time or money on a one dimensional player. Most NFL teams are very good at taking away those single dimensions that players like him have.

I agree that Toney appears to be an issue. However, out of 123 players on the team only 50 or so have been playing together as a team for two years. 50 of them are in their first year, 25 have played together for 2 plus season. Any new coaching staff is going to have a hard time getting this team on the same page. Also, a difficult or an inept coach makes the getting on the same page even harder.

 

It kinda of depends on if he can do anything else too. There are numerous teams that used specialty pass rushers on passing downs (and backs on Offense too), but it certainly helps make a roster if you can fill some other role too like special teams.

Other than he was give the #1 jersey that's a sign he's not some scrub.

He hasn't been in trouble with the law.

There haven't been any reports of him being an issue in the time he has been at UF.

If you have anything of substance please share it, otherwise you're just guessing to support your assertion the coaches had good cause. Which is based on facts not in evidence.

 

To some here that's part of a pattern that he is a problem, it's what you call twisting the facts to fit the narrative.

 

I think this post sums it up pretty well. I’d venture to say the majority of us on the board don’t work in a job that closely resembles what the coaches and players go through. In my eyes, it’s pretty similar to the military where every year you’re getting new people transferring in and out, including the “supervisor”. Toney may or may not be the answer but he just walked into shit show. Pretty similar to how I walked into my unit last year. The foundation is the key and requires the most work if you want to achieve max gains. You can’t just stroll in and tell everyone that everything is F*ed and show a power point and be all good to go, it requires stages and it requires someone to prioritize what stages get put where. It is possible that this is what is going on. Willing to sacrifice one thing (currently) to strengthen another thing and then continue to build. Not to mention the fact that there isn’t just one type of leader/coach. Phil Jackson was a great NBA coach when he had all the talent in the world, but he’s not the type of coach that is going to build a great team that needs to learn fundamentals. That’s not just for the DC, but all coaches. Just my $0.02

And what state did Mullen leave the offense in? Who are the most productive Mullen recruits and how do they compare to the talent that he inherited?

Why did Mullen pick the team he left to finish 4th in the SEC east this year?

I can give credit for the good Napier has done thus far the recruiting class looks to be good.
I was critical last year when it dropped like a rock yes it recovered by my criticism was at some posters who were crowing that he was gonna get us a top 15 class last year. (They were dreaming).

Perhaps my criticism is more toward the masses who in general get all nuts about the new guy when often they really are grasping at anything to make themselves feel like we got THE guy. (Seen it here with the last 3 guys).
I see it when players leave the program, many are like screw him and look for reasons to rationalize it. It's like when the girl dumps you that was great until she sent you packing and then she's a worthless troll.

And I agree this is what forums are for, you've seen enough of my posts from too hot over the years to know I'm not against spirited discussion.

Sometimes I just have to be the voice of reason in the wilderness.
Sadly, to some (not you) any criticism of the new guy is not to be had, you're only allowed to bash the old guy.
