The "Come on man" is reference to your comment, not Maher's commentary with which I happen to agree and by the way he has performed a similar routine prior to Halloween for the last several years. Contrary to your comment most liberals aren't obsessed with what can best be described as extreme wokeness although some potential costumes are in bad taste, an SS trooper coming immediately to mind.
Speaking of Halloween costumes and triggering. This cartoon is almost certain to trigger a number of so called conservatives.

Maher bashes the left all the time. Good to see in a way because it's kind of rare for someone to mock their own side. But I also feel like his priorities are a little odd.

You don’t see righties making fun of themselves. If you can’t laught at yourself, only at others, you aren’t worth much, wouldn’t you agree, back2back?

Odd priorities? You mean like making people laugh? He is funny sometimes.

I do like his show and agree with a lot of what he says. Given his very grave concerns about issues such as climate change and the state of our democracy, I just think he spends a disproportionate time making fun of woke people I've never heard of and focusing on issues like this. But maybe it's because he thinks they are funny. Like I said, I think it's good that he mocks the left, too. Jon Stewart used to do it a little bit but not as much. I'm not sure who would be analogous on the right.

I laugh at myself plenty of times, especially at the gym lifting to failure and my body says "nope." I'm a super happy person.
I'm just not a fan of kids bodies getting destroyed by libs due to a mental illness, crime, inflation, socialism/Marxism/Communism/Modern Monetary Theory, CRT, abortion on demand and Nazi environmentalists. These are all very bad for any society.

Self-deprecating humor is a great way to build rapport with a single person or a crowd. Nothing better IMO. People take themselves too damn seriously, and Maher does a good job of roasting all parts of our political society over an open flame.

You're so right. Mark Twain is one of my heroes. He had a dim view of the human race and dealt with the depression generated by that view with humor and satire. His audiences responded to him with laughter. Had he been outright critical, he would have been booed (and was on occasion!). He didn't spare himself either.

Saw a lot of costumes last night. Don't recall any arguments about any of them.

I did see some conservatives were very upset about some political costumes they saw on tv. So being mad at costumes doesn't appear to be a partisan issue.

'The View' draws disgust for dressing kid up as Trump toilet stuffed with documents for Halloween: 'Deranged'

Goldberg earned a standing ovation from the audience for entering the studio in a red robe and white bonnet as a character from "The Handmaid's Tale" to start the show. Her robe read, "my body, my morals, my life, my choice, not yours," on the back. But the show wasn't done with attention-hogging costumes.

    ****

The first child was dressed as former President Trump as a toilet, flushing classified documents. He was accompanied by two other kids dressed as FBI agents.

    ****

Another child came out dressed as Pennsylvania Sen. candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz in scrubs holding vegetables. The show mocked the Republican candidate lamenting the rising cost of groceries due to inflation in a video for social media.

    ****

Red State writer Bonchie called the show hosts "insane," while NewsBusters writer Nicholas Fondacaro called the segment "deranged."

If there was one person I believe could come back to life and fix our society it might be Twain.
