Yes, our defense doesn't impose it's will on anyone, but we could be undefeated with an accurate quarterback. I'm not suggesting a change at quarterback--yet. Obviously, just like Emory Jones, Mel Kiper Jr was WAY OFF THE MARK with AR. At this point, I would expect AR to start rounding a corner and I'm just not seeing it. We are one dimensional. Until AR makes defenses fear his arm, we will continue to struggle. Sorry, that's only too obvious, eh? I didn't want to have this thread be about a change at quarterback, but maybe it's time. If AR loses at College Station and Tally, is AR still the starter? Do you agree we are too one dimensional?
Like Emory, the dudes all Gator. And I appreciate the effort. He does seem at times to play scared/tight. With the way the offense was scuffling in the first half, it would not have bothered me to see Kitna get a series.
I can live with the mistakes, most of the time. QBs make them, especially young ones. It’s apart of the growth process. But my larger concern is his lack of leadership when the team needs it. He gets down on himself after each mistake, is seen sulking on the sidelines or seen sitting by himself. The fire is missing often times when it is needed. As much as we beat on Franks for his up & down performance the kid was always working the sideline, grabbing face masks and trying to provide an energy boost. We need to see more of that from AR. The team needs to see a leader. His ceiling is just so ridiculously high it’s going to be tough to pull him. There may be a time for that and I’m not sure when that is. Maybe if he has another Kentucky brain fart, it might be time …but for now, I’m ok with him getting as many reps as he can. Because I think with everyone else we have on the bench, their ceiling is Luke Del Rio.
I believe what you are suggesting is that this is AR's team. And I completely agree. He could be REALLY good, and if the defense was better than decent, then we would look a LOT better than we do today. Not playoff caliber, just upper echelon SEC. With this defense, he has to be transcendent, which, other than against Utah, he plainly has not. Kentucky was mainly his loss. Tennessee was him being the equal to Hooker but not transcendent. USF was an equally bad team and we COULD have lost it. LSU? See a bit of Kentucky and a bit of Tennessee games. UGa? laughable to say the least. I seriously doubt that Kitna is the answer to our issues on the offensive side of the ball. But if we never try Plan B in earnest, we will never know. AR is, quoting plenty of folks, "young playing the position and needs reps to get to good." Okay, can't we also say that about Kitna? Isn't Plan A sort of a deterrent when the defense isn't BAD and so the game is competitive? And if Plan B looks to be WAY behind, then go ahead and put AR back in, hopefully pissed and not mentally broken. But that is on him. Can anyone see the possibility that Kitna begins games the rest of the season and when it is not working, AR goes in and "saves the day"? Maybe that is a better fit for his personal psyche.
When people call an offense "one-dimensional" they usually mean it's mostly run or mostly pass. That's not the case with this team. We have a ~ 45/55 pass/run offense. Our biggest issues: 1. We have a soft defense and will always have to chase points 2. AR doesn't run 3.We have our weakest WR corps in ... ever? 4. AR seems scared to get hurt. Like, always. 5. OL much better at run blocking than pass protection
An (at best mediocre) OL, a rookie QB, and receivers that are simply serviceable. We are getting the most likely results and it's not any one player at fault. AR needed to be a transcendent/generational player to make this O better than average. Unfortunately, he's just a guy developing as normal. Makes sense that it's his job for the rest of the season barring implosion, but it should definitely be a wide open competition in spring and we all should realize that "that guy" at QB isn't likely on campus yet. Rebuild. Rebuild. Rebuild.
Our offense simply isn't dynamic enough to overcome our defensive inefficiency most games. LSU, for example. 35 points generally get you a win. But if the the defense gives up 45, that's a problem. The one game that I think our offense completely lost the game for us is Kentucky. Anthony actually lost that one on his own. Directly responsible for 14 of UKs 26 points that night.
I can tell you emphatically right now that AR will not be on this team next year. I can tell you that knowing it is fact. You can screenshot this and save it and when that day comes you can look for me here and hit me up and I’ll show you the emails with yesterday’s date proving what I’m telling you.
Just guessing that is insinuating AR's camp feels the staff is mismanaging him but I could be wrong. Seems like a few former Gators like Fee and Ahamad black have voiced some complaints publicly. Not a good look in my opinion.
AR is an athlete playing quarterback. Others like say Joe Burrow among others is a quarterback who is also an athlete. Big difference.
That would be great! I have not And I wonder if pulling him a few times in the game, alternating Kitna or Miller, would help. It seems worth a try. And I am with you, we NEED a great QB!
Nope, personnel is our biggest problem. Mullen and Grantham were our top 2 recruiters the last 4 years and they hated recruiting.
The way for AR to be successful is to run the Tebow offense. You have to consistently threaten to run him in order to get bigger passing windows. Tebow was not that accurate, often throwing low or behind guys, but they were so open because he was a threat to run. He was infinitely more durable than AR, though and gave a hit instead of taking a hit, so it may not work in the long run, but it seems it is the only way he can really threaten a defense. It isn't by sitting in the pocket throwing the ball.
