Thoughts and feedback welcome. https://lwvfl.org/amendments-2022/ AMENDMENT 1 Limitation on the Assessment of Real Property Used for Residential Purposes Originator: Florida Legislature AMENDMENT 2 Abolishing the Constitution Revision Commission Originator: Florida Legislature AMENDMENT 3 Additional Homestead Property Tax Exemption for Specified Critical Public Service Workforce Originator: Florida Legislature
I think voting no on all three is justifiable. I voted yes on two after the partisan hacks on the last Constitution Revision Commission tried to bundle a bunch of issues together in confusing amendments to bait people into voting yes on bad constitutional amendments. (Include enough good with the bad to get people to bite. Fortunately, they didn't.) But I think the League has good reasons for opposing it.
Agreed on "No" for all three Amendments. I like the overall idea of Amendment 2, but the solution is terrible like you mention. We will end up with constitutional amendments that most probably wont support.
I was tempted on this one. Amendment one it was but voted it down because if a property improvement improves value shouldn’t it be taxed?
It doesn't matter what you vote. As our Legislature has shown us numerous times now, they're gonna do whatever they want anyway and hate democracy.
I think that's a fair view as well. My thought was that floods cause damage that we all end up subsidizing on some level, so encouraging improvements that mitigate the risk could actually save money overall.
