At 2:31 a.m., San Francisco Police Department (“SFPD”) Officer Colby Wilmes responded to the Pelosi residence, California and knocked on the front door. When the door was opened, Pelosi and DEPAPE were both holding a hammer with one hand and DEPAPE had his other hand holding onto Pelosi’s forearm. Pelosi greeted the officers. The officers asked them what was going on. DEPAPE responded that everything was good. Officers then asked Pelosi and DEPAPE to drop the hammer. A man breaks in and makes violent threats but then greets the officers - apparently pretty casually - at the door and Peloisi asks him to drop the hammer rather than jumping back or yelling to police that he's an intruder? Then the man hits him with the hammer before the cops go inside and restrain him? I'm sure it all happened very quickly but seems like it would have been more chaotic than this suggests - no report of yelling, etc. The only thing I can think is that perhaps Pelosi was trying to de-escalate the situation and get control of the hammer because he thought the man had mental health issues and didn't want the cops to shoot him.
I suspect Pelosi let go of the hammer because he was ordered to. Not sure why the police gave that order and did not anticipate what occurred such that they would be in position to keep it from happening. But as you say, things happen fast

What is crying conspiracy about not being sure a Canadian whack job is a symbol of the republican party? I know the Democratic Party is desperate for anything right now, but is this any different than kavinaugh, Rand Paul, steve scalise etc? Nuts are everywhere. Not just pubs.
