This kind of thinking exists across job titles. It's not just cops, but of course cops (judges too) are in a really unique position for their bigotry to negatively impact lives.

You don’t like it that I won’t pile on the obvious.
P.S. I’ve been mishandled by the police, thrown in jail for the night for doing absolutely nothing. But you won’t see me picking on cops. I try not to pick at the people who are mostly trying to do an extremely difficult job. Just because I ran into a piece of trash LEO, doesn’t mean they’re all like this.

 

There just aren’t that many racists like some here believe. Bias exists and will always exist, it’s in our nature.

 

Cops are mostly good and doing gods work.
Libbies are mostly doing the devils work. Come on man.

 

Of course there are a few more. There are teachers, bankers and Disney cast members who are flat out racist. Let’s get em all!

 

I would take it a step farther, using a little original sin theology. All humans and human institutions are corrupt and corruptible. Our whole constitutional separation of powers is based upon that fact, and seeks to remedy this all too human shortcoming with accountability and outside checks on power. My major problem with police culture is at they are not accountable due to the way our society works.

I think it's a corrupt culture now, far more than most in society, but not because the individuals that are police are uniquely corrupt humans, but because it's a culture that has been insulated from accountability. The only threat most of them face from misconduct is from the inside if they do the right thing.

 

I do appreciate and respect the police. If they are ever in line with me at fast food, I try to pick up their tab. You should try it out sometime. Police are simply not overwhelmingly corrupt and racist like you say. You are flat out wrong!
