Funny you mention NILs. Of the top 5 programs with the biggest NILs, all are in trouble this season. The biggest NIL programs, Texas A&M and Miami are already talking firing their HBC. Miami is a dead program, go ahead and kill it maybe take up water polo with the marine biology program.
There was a rumor earlier that Nebraska had quietly already reached a deal with Aranda. It wasn't solid enough to report but interesting enough to mention. Hard to see him leaving Baylor for the corn fields.
Why would Aranda make this move?? Nebraska is a career killer. Rumors of Baylor Bears Coach Dave Aranda to Nebraska Cornhuskers are Heating Up - Inside The Bears on Sports Illustrated: News, Analysis, and More
Im sure Miami fans are major disappointed with their home boy, but I havent heard of any serious comments on firing Cristobal. That would be absurd still in year one. Cristobal's season is worse than Florida's at this point, but he has the same disclaimers that Napier does, i.e., new system, inherited minimal talent from Diaz, but is a very good recruiter which theoretically bodes well for the future. On the other hand, Aggies disenchantment is understandable given that Fisher has been at A&M awhile, made a lot of $$, talked a lot of trash, supposedly recruited well, but still hasnt won jack. Hopefully, Old Lane kicks his ass this week and the Gators follow up the following week.
Don't forget that TAMU's current AD is Ross Bjork, who was at Ole Miss prior to taking that job. And Ross is a tit. Everyone here knows it, basically hates him, and largely blames him for the ham-fisted handling of Freeze fiasco (fiascos even?) and subsequent Luke years. Money is a funny motivator, but I would be more than a little surprised if Lane left here, after seeing first hand the aftermath of an athletics program run by him, to go work for him. Everything going on at aTm right now is classic Bjork.
Kind of off topic, but I was visiting Oxford recently and given that it's a tiny little town where everyone knows everybody and there are only a couple of upscale areas, was wondering where old Lane and his $7M salary resides. Any ideas? Condo on the square, Country Club area on the golf course, Wellsgate?? Inquiring minds
Country Club, rather close to my dean as it turns out... I don't get paid enough, lol. I believe Eli Manning still has a condo on the square, though I could be wrong. Those things are insanely expensive for where we are, something like 1 to 2 million to live over there. You'd be surprised how much houses cost here, particularly for Mississippi. A friend of mine told me that a well-known Nashville honky tonk was looking at doing a venue on the Square some years back and ended up doing it in the French Quarter because property was so much cheaper. I was lucky to get into my little abode when I did back in 2017. To your point, that's why I don't believe the vast majority of stories about Lane whoopin' it up around here. I'm also a working musician in town as sort of a way to maintain my sanity, and I NEVER see him out and about. I don't think I was here a month before running into Freeze at a local restaurant.
Thanks, that was one of my guesses. That is a beautiful area/golf course and sufficiently away from students. I tried biking thru that area once and those hills were killers. I have a family member that works for Ole Miss and I was with him when he was house hunting. Yea, we were pretty shocked when we saw some of the prices, especially those condos on the Square. There is a lot more $$$ in Oxford than I would have ever guessed. Out of town alums have condos just for football/baseball weekends. All the poor folks must live out in the rural areas. First time at the local Krogers was an eye opener, watching all the sorority girls driving up in their high-end foreign SUVs, not exactly the Mississippi stereotype. The beater cars and gun racks must all be down in Starkville. We were in town for the Ole Miss/Ky game, ate at Boure, but no sign of Lane. I did have their cocktail named after him tho, which was pretty good.
