Reiterating what I previously posted if that type of dreck floods Twitter, advertisers will start abandoning the platform. Similarly, one reason for the tens of millions of daily engagements on Twitter is that the platform has a large number of credible high profile persons who post regularly on the platform including politicians from both sides of the political spectrum, respected commentators, journalists and respected academics. If Elon Musk allows that crap to be posted on the platform it may be abandoned in droves by those credible high profile posters. Although I think he is smart enough not to let it happen, Musk could end up killing the goose that has been laying Twitter's golden egg for years.

People keep framing issues like this to try to get attention, thinking that framing an issue as a threat to democracy will move the needle. It's like they haven't realized that a substantial part of the population is already done with democracy and fine with political violence

I am all for banning overt racist and hate speech, but I’m not sure how far Elon really needs to go on a forum like Twitter. You can post highly graphic porn on Twitter, for example. It’s never been a bastion of wholesomeness. Nor has it ever been closely monitored for content. Prostitutes and escorts run rampant on there. (don’t ask me how I know) A company like GM objecting is suspect as well, given their direct competition with Tesla. It’s not like Twitter is the evening news. It has always been seedy.

Maybe the lefties that are upset with Musk buying Twitter should get their own platform. :D

oh, that’s good. It will be easier for him if he can get the exact location of people who say bad things about him.

Twitter Founder Jack Dorsey Launching Test Of Rival Social Network (msn.com)

Don’t look now, Elon Musk, but Twitter founder Jack Dorsey is about to launch a public test version of a new social media app.

The app, Bluesky, is gearing up for a test run just after Musk plunked down $44 billion to buy Twitter. It already has a waiting list of users waiting to try out the app’s beta version.

It’s not yet clear what Blueksky will eventually look like or how it will function, but it has been noted as a rival to Twitter.

Absolutely. It's a private business. He said without a trace of sarcasm.

Elon Musk is clearly suffering from emotion and mental problems. I suspect twitter is defunct by 1/1/25.

He has enough money and ego to keep it open even as it loses money as an ego play. That is the whole reason any of this happened, as it never made any business sense. The problem for him is that Tesla's stock is down around 43% on the year. But it is also possible that has hit bottom as well (closing the court case was a smart move, as I think the markets were worried about what would come out due to that), so we will see.

My conspiracy addled housekeeper tells me she has never heard / never read anything on or from either Q or 4chan. Doesn't matter, she regularly reads her favorite conspiracy laden sources that endlessly repeat and embellish the misinformation coming from those sites.

Late last December or early January she told me her former husband's sister, a retired US army sergeant, called her and told her to be prepared, something big was about to happen that would drastically change the United States. This former s-i-l said that was all she could tell my housekeeper, but wanted her to be prepared for possible violence. Housekeeper tells me she has heard nothing more from her former s-i-l since then. Doesn't even know where she is.

After Musk took over, the use of the n-word and antisemitism both spiked on Twitter. I guess we found out what it was that Twitter's rules were stopping the "cancelled" and "censored" from saying.

Good on them for pointing out that the "censorship" whiners got what they wanted. They can now throw around their racial slurs freely.
