As a Gator I will say Georgia and Kirby Smart can go kick rocks. I feel the game was a bit like Rocky in his first fight against Apollo. They won. They didn't beat us however. As ugly as the first half was we had the Dawgs and their fan base legitimately concerned in the 3rd quarter. 17 unanswered points and we took the #1 undefeated defending champs to the woodshed for 1 qtr. Listen. Realistically, there are glaring issues on both sides of the ball. We all know that. CBN knows this as well. It's about mid-season, year one. A new coach and scheme. Napier is working just as hard to completely rebuild Florida culture which was "give up blatantly" last year. Yes despite the loss of Cormani we are recruiting at at much higher level than previous regime-S. Coach has alot on his plate and this is a full scale rebuild. He is and will, make mistakes. Yes, he is a Sunbelt champion, a Saban protégé and a great recruiter. What he is not is a magician. Waiting is painful, especially with losses like this and several that honestly could have gone either way. We just as easily be 6-2 save a few plays. We are 4-4. It is what it is. Is Billy Napier the guy? Will AR develop into a more consistent QB? Will our defense start to click? These questions and others revolve heavily around recruiting, development and experience. There is no secret we need better skill at several positions. More experience and development at others. Statistically we have become more solid and more skilled on the Oline, at RB and i persoanlly like our WR's. Particularly Pearsall and Shorter WHEN they are given an opportunity to shine. Our biggest issue imo is our defensive front. This is a whole convo in itself but our secondary which has made strides is dead in the water without gap integrity and a solid push up front. We have regressed defensively because teams have good tape at this point and are scheming against us. Recruit, develop, repeat. We need some big nasty violent monsters up front, particularly at NT for this scheme to work. As we all know if you go one dimensional, you die in the SEC. I suspect Napier wants to lean on the run more but you go 80/20 run and watch what happens. Our season will go as AR goes because of this. The run is our bread and butter but with AR having issues we will be very inconsistent. Anthony Richardson has only started a handful of games in his college career. He's a soph. He suffered from poor development under Mullen. I don't know if he is the future or not but there is no question he has the intangibles and ability to do amazing things. There is just no consistency at this point. What doesn't help is every armchair coach wannabe bashing the kid and our coaches every Saturday. We are not FSU or UCF. Stop acting like it. We are all frustrated Gators who want the same things. Alot of 4 and 4 teams lay down and quit. Our kids haven't. They have fought to the end. We should all give them some respect and encouragement. My flag flys on my vehicle every Saturday. Does yours? The road to being a champion starts simply by acting like one. Go Gators.
I'm not sure about AR, really like him and he seems like a standup guy. To be realistic though he's not a freshman and has had college level coaching and everyone called Mullen the QB whisperer. Kids got all the arm talent, physical size and wheels but I'm not sure you can teach seeing the field and throwing guys open. Some guys you watch them a couple times and just know they are processing at a very high level like Trask and Grier. I hope I'm wrong and he can develope that instinct but if we're not going to use his best current asset (wheels) then we are going to hold the offense back. There was such a noticable difference in the 3rd qtr when he was running and GA was confused vs when we went back to being in a shell in the 4th qtr. Either way he represents Florida in a great manner and I'll continue hoping the light comes on and he can become a confident leader.
Was he the actual QB whisperer or was it in reality, Brian Johnson? Johnson was there in 2020. He left and we saw no progress whatsoever from either Emory Jones or Anthony Richardson under Mullen. In fact, they regressed.
I'm all in on CBN being our coach. Everyone knew coming into this season its a rebuild. AP poll today has Uga and Tennessee rated 1st and 2nd and Lsu 15th. Three of our loses.
People seem to forget that everyone was bitching about the lack of recruiting under Mullen and it didn't appear there was a great deal of development going on with the guys that his crew was recruiting. Now that he's gone, fastforward to this season and people are bitching and moaning that Napier isn't winning with the exact same talent that people were bitching and moaning about Mullen recruiting. The best players on the team are guys that came with Napier from Louisiana, plus Etienne who is also from Louisiana. To top it off, 2 of our losses are to teams ranked in the Top 2 in the country, and another is ranked in the Top 15, and we have a win against the 12th ranked team. What other team has played as many highly ranked teams this season as we have? We don't at this point have the talent to truly be competitive against a good deal of our competition. There are many on this site that are going to bitch and moan no matter what.
I resent that gator fans call other gators whiny. Every single fan base in the country complains about something. I just listened to Bucs post game last week- Tom Brady - goat/ getting blasted, coaching staff getting ripped- doesn’t make them bad bucks fans. Now, there ARE some gators that take it too far and aren’t even complaining about the right things. But the difference is nuanced and pumping anyone who second guesses play calling - as a bad fan- it’s dense. The fact is- we don’t have a lot of talent BUT there are some things to worry about with this style of offense and game management and the lack of flow and identity with play calling. Saying it’s ALL talent- that’s not even close to accurate. CBN has to get better. He just does
It depends on where they whine or vent . Perfectly okay on a private message board with each other. Not okay on Twitter or reaching out attacking kids or coaches via social media.
Looks like most people are pretty realistic now. I guess four losses will do that to us. Accepting our reality blows. Napier will have some kids he recruited on the field next year and he'll begin the process of righting the ship. And for the kids giving their all... Huge thank you to them all. We had one kid on the field last night Javarrious Perkins? Is that right? Might be off on the players name. He picked off Bennett, actually stole the ball from the receiver. A defender. Kids gonna be the real deal. He was a four star. The future... Go Gators.
Real Human beings learn and grow every day. One thing I have no doubt of. Give Napier uga or bama talent and we're undefeated and soon to be Champs. It'll take a few years.
I disagree on one thing. Ga. showed us our offense line isn't that good. AR was harassed almost on every play. We have so many holes one recruiting year won't fill the gaps. He has to go to the portal.
I hate to say this but if spurrier were coaching our offense with the same players, we probably beat lsu and uk. Our offense just does not fit our strength. What’s the excuse not run Richardson? Miller was hurt? Well miller is healthy now. Unless Napier is sacrificing the season to develop Richardson as a passer there is just no excuse now. Napier is a great recruiter? Did we just lose to Miami back to back in recruiting?
100% agree on this. Johnson was the best assistant that Mullen had in his 4 years. Johnson has done a great job with Jalen Hurts in Philadelphia. He's a future NFL head coach.
Recruit and Rebuild. I'm curious what folks think about AR. I have to laugh at some die hard (hangers on to pre-season Heisman talk), that still think AR might get drafted - That may be true, as in the 6th or 7th round...... My question is do folks think AR's experience this year will propel him into a decent outing next year? Regrettably he was unable to connect with some recievers that were open, albeit in tight windows, that could very much have made Saturdays contest more entertaining. Hey, knocking out the occassional 70 or 80 yard run is exciting but that has hardly been the answer UF needs this year. We need a QB that can complete passes, read the defense and exploit weakness. I'm just not seeing that pattern with AR this year. We can blame the defense and we can blame the coaches but at the end of the day the QB needs to execute. UF and AR was terrible the first three to four series Saturday and thats what determined the outcome. I'm REALLY HOPING UF can sign DJ Lagway and get that kid started in helping us recruit in next years cycle. Kid reminds me of Bryce Young somewhat.
We have to consistently score at least 35 points per game and have a better than average defense. If our QB is having a bad passing game, put someone else in. So the backup QB must be always prepared to enter the game at any time. Make the starting QB have to work to stay in the game.
I know we all "mature" at different times and ways, but it was apparent during the Kentucky game. Too much press/pundits saying we are exceptional when it is obvious, at least with the way the offense has to be run (and possibly not in the pure horsepower of each player), that we are middle-of-the-pack SEC caliber. And to that, although I will say much of this take can be attributed to being a weary fan, methinks it is why AR is playing every snap in competitive games and Kitna has not taken any. Napier thinks (like Mus-take and Driskel) he has to have an escapeability component at QB until further notice. He is either wise or he has a blind spot.
We are what we are, and I don't think ANYBODY on this board, excepting trolls, likes 4 - 4 very much. I have been very impressed with CBN's attempts to re-create and build things up from scratch. His kids play hard and we have seen very little controversy (bad actor behavior). I also think CBN is an extremely classy guy and I think he is suffering (hurting internally) regarding the teams (lack of) success. I applaud the fact he is not playing the "blame game" and is supporting his players. I am also quite happy with this cycles recruiting class and the potential to close out with a top 10 class and maybe a surprise or two to vault us even higher. I am not happy with the product on the field year 1. Lets just face it, this is not a good team. The defense is terrible, special teams are far from special and the offense is inconsistent. QB play / passing game has been a glaring dissapointment. Just hoping for a 6-6 finish and a bowl and a big roster change with the incoming class and the transfer portal. The way I see it, we should be looking at around 35 new faces. (At least) CBN needs to tag DJ lagway as quickly as possible. QB is hurting us, we need a star on the field and off it (for recruiting / class building) I think DJ fits the bill. My hope for AR is he uses the bitterness of 2022 to develop into a more complete QB in 23. I don't think UF will be making much "noise" until 24 or 25. Billys job will be on the line by then, hopefully the talent aquisition business will be successful the next couple of cycles.
