How many times did LSU, a lesser team that UGa, punt? I would have to say however incremental, its an improvement and at this point I'll take any improvement.
Richt left UGa well stocked with talent and Kirby brought in the #2 class in his first complete recruiting cycle. He entered a much different situation than Napier has.
Thanks @benheb! Here are my ideas for what they're worth. I think it all actually works together. There have been many other people (not you) complaining about the route trees. They're not modern. They're too simple. I understand that WRs have to make decisions about where to cut early, or late, or differently, based upon the actual coverage at that instant in time. In other words WHILE they're running the routes. The QB also has to fully understand the possibilities and anticipate the WR's decision based on the same coverage in real-time. It's all very dynamic. If either is wrong, it's a highly likely interception. What if we have WRs and TEs that cannot consistently get separation? What if we have WRs or TEs that make these choices and go in the wrong place at the wrong time where 1 DB can cover 2 receivers . . . so it looks like the coaching is "pedestrian" and "not modern?" What if the coaches know this and also know we have track stars coming next year who are more familiar with the new route tree decision-making and our HBC is having AR try to stay and anticipate and throw so he will be more experienced (now still not even a full season as a starter and undeveloped by the prior coaches)? What if they know mistakes are still being made and so they prefer the more safe runs? Throwing it OB on 4th down is frustrating but more from a lack of experience and AR is still going down his mental checklist like my grandson who is in his first year as QB1. I'm not making fun of AR and comparing him to a youth league player at all. When you move up, you have to think about things for a time and then suddenly it clicks and the game seems slower. Sometimes THIS YEAR when the QB and WR both make good choices, we've seen some beautiful passes and receptions for big chunks. We've also seen run plays results in huge chunks at times.
OK. You say I am negative, I say logical. And I didn't exactly predict sub .500 record, so there is that, too. As for the constant seasonal comparisons to Smart's first year. It is total BS. So next year is playoff or bust because that is what Smart did. Is that fair to add to? Feel free to add all the caveats you want (Richt left much more talent) when it adds to your narrative. As for my "garbage" takes, and your constant "google is your friend" comments (Urban Meyer was 9-3 his first year, FYI) I will sleep just fine.
That is all true. I guess the OP should perhaps should lead with that. I just don't like the seasonal comparisons. In doing so anything short of title game next year then would be failure.
It is very true fans are quick to bring up middling first seasons by great coaches while dismissing expectations of actual greatness achieved in year 2 or 3.
When you have all your receivers together, you attract a herd of the defense making AR’s decisions harder. Spread it out for him to give him a better ability on the pre snap reads. You know, all those routes we can’t cover I don’t know if it just CBN offense, he thinks he needs blockers in or what.

I'd like to see what Oregon would do against Georgia if they played now as opposed to the 1st game of the season. Maybe they flop again but nix is actually playing well now. Georgia looks beatable this year. Bennet should have been picked off two more times and that's with very little pressure if any.
UGA is still really good but they played us fat and happy like some 90s FSU teams. They weren’t as sharp and focused as last season. But it doesn’t mean they couldn’t play like that in a truly big game. We were obviously not a real challenge.

Oh i don't disagree. They could turn it on in any given game but let's not act like Kirby and the team overlooked us. He is their spurrier and he hates us. They just aren't sharp right now. Missouri maybe was overlooked but not us.
