Trans care ban backed by Florida medical board (msn.com) The Florida medical board committee on Friday approved a prospective rule that will ban medical or surgical gender affirming care for trans youth under the age of 18. The committee's recommendation will be passed to the board, who will make the official ruling next Friday. Prior to the ruling, the board heard testimony from those in support and opposition. A number of adults in different stages of de-transitioning spoke in support of the rule, citing multiple mental and physical complications they experienced as a result of gender affirming care. Oppositional testimony came from transgender individuals or trans youth advocates that cited the risk to a youth's mental health, including increased risk of suicide, if gender affirming care were to be limited or prohibited. The rule would prohibit puberty blockers, hormones, cross hormone therapy and gender affirming surgery for people under the age of 18, with an exception for individuals enrolled in IRB-approved, university-centered clinical research trials. There are currently no active clinical trials in Florida related to the provision of gender affirming care, and whether the length of these trials would be adequate to allow full transitory care cannot be guaranteed.
And it turns out Bill Maher's assessment of Trump has actually been accurate, much more so than the mainstream media. As early as 2016 he claimed that Trump would never accept defeat and even after Trump won in 2016 the Orange One claimed that he also won the popular vote and that it was stolen from him through fraud. The only thing Maher got wrong with respect to Trump and the 2020 election was a hypothetical scenario in which Maher suggested that Trump would have to be forcibly removed from the White House and that was probably just comedic exaggeration. Trump has still refused to admit that he lost the election and the delusional narcissist never will.
A bunch of DeSantis hacks eschew the recommendations of reputable medical associations to discriminate against a group of people in violation of the Constitution. And these hacks did this because the Florida Legislature, despite being Republican controlled, was unwilling to pass a law accomplishing this. Our state government is run by a bunch of anti-freedom bigots. Also see my post in the other thread on what a sham process this was:
Hate to be the one to tell you GL but DeSantis received a very, very loud and enthusiastic reception from fans on both sides at the game on Saturday.
And? I am already well aware that anti-freedom bigot is going to win. This is the same state that was stupid enough to vote for Trump in 2020.
Kind of like Trump when he attended the Alabama - LSU game in 2019. Edit:Although it's an analogy directly on point I'm waiting for the standard response that this thread isn't about the former president and that I am obsessed with the loser with the orange complexion. Getting back to the direct subject of this thread although I do not think that the government including a board whose members are appointed by politicians should be involved in medical decisions best left to the patients, the parents of patients under the age of 18 and medical professionals, a ban on irreversible surgical procedures which are extremely rare would not be unreasonable. An across the board ban on all other forms of medical care would be way over the top.
No need for a standard response. Everyone here is very well aware of your obsession with the loser and the orange complexion.
Come on GL, surely you can do better than that. You only used one of the standard democrat slurs against Ron. Hell, I’ve received text messages this weekend from democrat operatives with more grievances than that. Are you slipping on us?
I would add that my obsession with the Orange God is meaningless compared with the obsession of right-wing politicians to insert the government into the doctor-patient relationship. Decisions regarding the care of transgender children or children who think that they may be transgender should be left to medical professionals, the parents of the children and the children themselves not to politicians and bureaucrats. Similarly the determination of when the termination of a pregnancy is medically necessary should be between the physician the pregnant woman. Although off-topic for this thread, personally I have no problem with a 15-week cutoff for elective abortions provided that the decision of whether an abortion beyond the 15th week is medically necessary is left to the physician. The way most of the anti-abortion statutes are worded the only way a physician can avoid the possibility of prosecution would be to wait until his/her patient is literally on death's door.
I don't need to do "better" than that. The truth is the truth. He has repeatedly championed legislation that violates the free speech rights of Floridians. He has repeatedly taken actions that undermine the democratic rights of Floridians. And his dumpster fire of administration has repeatedly taken and championed actions that discriminate against LGBTQ Floridians. They're anti-freedom bigots.
There were thousands of t-shirts, stickers, signs and DeSantis flags. Quite a few LGB flags too. CC's name was not seen once.
Just trying to block the sickos from ruining children's lives. These mentally unfit doctors should be locked up.
The only sickos ruining children's lives are you and your bigoted ilk. The major medical associations back gender-affirming care because it's an evidence-based treatment that reduces harm. There are people who regret all sorts of common medical treatments. If we stopped the use of those treatments because of the regrets of a small minority, there wouldn't be much medicine left to practice.
