Cool! I will be pulling for the Phillies and guess you will too? BTW.....I just posted a thread for the series: IMPORTANT - GAME THREAD: 2022 World Series | Swamp Gas Forums
Well, the Astros actually drafted me twice-but their only player I like is VerLander. Never been a Dusty Baker fan, even when he was on the Braves. I have no attachment to the Phillies other than Robertson-I do like Wheeler. OMG! I completely forgot about Dalton Guthrie!! GO PHILLIES AGAIN!!! Guess I’ll go with the underdog.
Tonight we’re going to have Ms. Jan’s homemade Cobb salad with fried cut up boneless chicken breasts. There will be toasted Five Cheese Texas toast on the side. The back porch is restocked and ready to go. Adult libations are available as desired. Life is good in Gator Nation!
Tonight we’re going to have Mongolian Beef/vegetables over rice. Kinda overcast here today-79% chance of rain tonight-we could sure use it. The longnecks are ice cold and Ms. Jan’s wine is chilled. Life is good in Gator Nation!
Tonight is kale and mushrooms over polenta. Polenta is Italian for very creamy yellow grits as opposed to hominy grits. Made with whole milk and not water if done right. Using shitaake mushrooms. Bacon and thyme are other flavors. Also some garlic, parmesan reggiano, butter, olive oil, black pepper and lemon zest.
The Mrs had the leftover Tuscan chicken soup (enough left just for her). So I went BLT tonight. I had one sub roll leftover and decided to make it a BLT on steroids. 4 slices of bacon, iceberg lettuce & vine ripes (obviously) with thinly sliced red onion and mustard aioli. Tasty and hit the spot.
Tonight we’re going to pick up deli-sandwiches for supper. As is always, our choices are Subway and Firehouse. In a landslide vote Firehouse wins again. Beautiful day here today. The back porch is open. The longnecks are ice cold and Ms. Jan’s wine is chilled. Life is good in Gator Nation!
74, haven't tried Firehouse subs yet. Will give them a try. Must say I am rather disappointed in Subway. Publix Deli makes a much better sub than them.
Our choices are limited in Marianna but if we go to Dothan or Tallahassee we like Jersey Mike’s and Jimmy John’s-and as you said Publix Deli makes a good sandwich, we just don’t have a Publix in Marianna.
Tonight we’re being treated to Ms. Jan’s homemade chicken pot pie—so good! Nice weather today and the back porch is ready for your leisure. The longnecks are ice cold and Ms. Jan’s wine is chilled. Life is good in Gator Nation!
If you lived in these parts, Bill, you'd likely consider "Big Joe's" your sub maker of choice.... Family owned and multiple generation they are fantastic!
Mom's at the local nursing home until I finish repairs to her house. Almost done! Last night on the way out from a visit there, one of the nurses was eating some takeout Chinese - which "encouraged" me to drop by "China" here and get some too. Right away when I walked in, the lady who runs the place started putting in my order without me even saying anything. I didn't really think I was a "regular", but I guess when you always get the same thing - Moo Goo Gai Pan - it sorta makes you stand out a little. Her little girl is the cashier and also takes orders - very young but very sharp. I heard her making some little chirping noises so I answered back with those vocal exercise sounds Coach Corso makes in Herbie's twitter posts on Saturday mornings. Little kids love that kind of thing - me too!
I moved on from Subway probably 25 years ago. I got sick the last 2 times I ate Firehouse when going back home to visit. Good call out on Publix. When I last lived in Fla they became my ‘go to’ deli sandwich destination those last couple years. I prefer Jimmy John’s over Jersey Mike’s but could eat either. But I prefer the local mom & pop delis over any of them. In my neck of the woods Raphael’s & The Flats are my current favorites.
Went with pizza on the grill tonight. White clam pizza was one …and Meatball was the other, with onion & black olives. Tossed salad on the side and opened up a red from the Finger Lakes region. Go Gators
Hogan's Heroes is a Gainesville tradition for deli sandwiches. And I think they still have Guinness on tap and that requires a dedicated delivery system using nitrogen. That is how Guinness should be consumed. As an undergrad I would go to the Oxford Pub on the Northside in Chicago to get it. Way better than out of the bottle or even from the attempt to have a "widget" releasing nitrogen in cans. There was a place in Cincinatti that had it properly on tap back in the day when I was a grad student and my now wife lived there during school breaks. IIRC it was called Mecklenburg. I think it is now Mecklenberg Gardens and is a live music hot spot and not mostly a beer garden.
On the subject of subs.....does anyone remember "Alan's Cubana"? How about "Alan's Cubana II"? While attended UF....early 70's.....I worked part-time at the latter. Delivery, answer the phone, & kitchen prep. Got reprimanded once when I answered the phone and left off the "II". OJT for quite a few things which served me well later in life. He used to cook his bacon and steak in butter. There was a standing order once a week that went to a medical office on campus. Stack of pizza pies and always a nice tip!
