If you remember this please add details. Does anyone ( older Gators ) remember the details of the 1968 Florida / Ga game Leading up to the game the Gators Offense was struggling mightily so Ray Graves made some wholesale changes to the Offense and Defense. The Dawgs were good that year There was grumbling internally and externally . Ray Graves flipped Offense To Defense and Defense to Offense . The most extreme coaching move I can ever remember . it lasted a short time in the game . We were crushed 51-0. A Hurricane was blowing off the Coast of Florida it it was raining.
My father took the whole family to the game. We had Orange and Blue ties on. We were sitting on the press box side on about the 20 yard line maybe 50 rows up and remember it was raining so hard we couldn't see the field! I read that with less than a minute to go Vince Dooley called time out up 48-0 to kick a field goal. Can't remember the coaches name but he called SOS in San Francisco to tell him what Dooley had done. That is why in 1995 SOS made sure to hang 52 on the dogs In Athens! Gotta love SOS!!!
right? What's next? a walk down memory lane of every other beatdown we have received over the years. Can't wait for the Nebraska game! Good times.
Remember it well. Turned my gator shirt inside out it was so humiliating. Need to remember this stuff as much as we do great wins.
I remember it distinctly, but I don't choose to bring it up as a subject of conversation. Only a troll would bring up a beatdown of over 50 years ago in a Gators forum.
Hope the Gators put up a good game and don’t embarrass tomorrow , a win is preferable and no I am not a troll. A long time Gator. The memory all be it bad was more about Ray Graves approach to the game and having the defensive team play offense and Offense play defense . Does anyone recall any of those details? Thank you for your responses and I understand the sensitivity .
Jeez, if you're going to bring it up, at least know what you're talking about. The offense didn't play defense and the defense didn't play offense. He switched the coordinators, and we know how that worked out. Supposedly, this was a major factor in his being replaced by Doug Dickey after the '69 season.
U14,That is good info. I must have gotten it wrong. Thank you. You have to admit it was a wild move. Must have rippled thru the team.
