The biggest Christian movement of the 1940s was supporting Nazis… who knew…

Spoiler alert. Turn away. He was not just sorta corrupt. He was paid cash dollars by the German government to make speeches and write columns authored by Nazi propagandists. He and ~24 other congressmen used their congressional franking privileges to mail out Nazi propaganda and took money for doing so.

Anyone can call themselves a Christian. Actual Christians are not surprised when Christianity is used for terror. I expect the Antichrist will in fact lead the biggest so called Christian reformation in the end.

Just finished the podcast series - last episode dropped yesterday. Very good. It really is a suppressed part of American history. I am a bit into the main book - Hitler's American Friends.

A few years ago there was a bit of a kerfuffle among some right-wing media types about the fact that there had been no accountability for leftists with communist sympathies in the 30s, mainly in the arts. Their existence and identity had not been sufficiently publicized. They didn't think that McCarthy hearings went far enough. It's an arguable point.

But it seems like in terms of accountability, we have done a far more pervasive job simply burying this episode of our history, which arguably is not even history

Finished the series today. I found it intensely interesting and covered an aspect of US history of which I was completely unaware. There were a lot of congressmen involved with the Nazi government either directly or indirectly through its agents. Big take home for me was to realize the DOJ did not effectively deal with the involved congressmen but they were nearly all voted out of office. The podcast signed off with a song by Woody Guthrie critical of Charles Lindbergh’s fascist efforts. Can recommend the series.

The descriptions of the courtroom scenes were crazy. Poor court reporter.

Slightly off topic but I have been enjoying a podcast called History that doesn’t Suck. There are about a hundred episodes and I am on about number ten. The first ten dealt with the American revolution.
