That’s amazing. You mean the issue was addressed ad how without legislation, national political platforms, and a gubernatorial press conference? Amazing.

And I wasn’t really linking to it for the underlying story but for Michael Hobbes’ excellent observation on the consistent obsession with genitals

We agree. It’s amazing what can be resolved when the 16yo parent doesn’t try to force his kid to play with 13yos. No litigation required

We don't agree. I know this is likely a feudal exercise and I'm unlikely to continue it, but a few points.

1). I'm not aware of any lawsuits that address exclusion of a potential player for specified evidence-based competitive advantage, as opposed to generalized trans exclusion. Again, there are ways to try to be more specific. Sports League have used testosterone levels. They may need to tweak those standards but it's not like no one can come up with a standard to address actual competitive advantage as opposed to just trying to give voice to generalized irrational hatred.

    2. Even if there were such lawsuits, those happen in other sports leagues as well. You can't say a standard fails just because someone legally challenges it. You have to defend your standard and show that it's rationally based. That is the way of the world, for better or worse.

    3. And it's hard for me to believe in the current conservative would have a problem with parents suing, given that a big part of their worldview is that parents should be empowered to legally terrorize anyone who professes to teach in a way they don't like.

Again, I doubt it will be worth returning to this debate. We are just not disagreeing in a way that can be addressed through an exchange of ideas

After 200+ responses, everything that can be said about this topic has already been said. Nothing wrong with tangential questions and it was an interesting one.

The testosterone testing is a straw man. Nobody has ever said Testosterone is the sole factor in differences in performance of male vs female. but of course someone comes up With this arbitrary marker and says see, we tested them and their levels are consistently below %
so now it’s fair he competes against women. Um no. Nobody of any scientific pedigree ever stated testosterone was the sole reason…and when someone pushes back with common sense biology such as lung capacity, bone density, connective tissue it’s met with “ transphobic , etc etc” But you know this. There are indeed irrefutable physical differences and thank goodness for them

Which outlier is more pertinent - the biological male spiking into the face of a female, or the biological female spiking into the face of a female? Or do you believe them to be comparable?

I think if you're going to argue that it's too dangerous for this transgender girl to be allowed to participate, you need to offer more proof than an unfortunate play that caused an injury, particularly when that sort of play and injury aren't abnormal in volleyball.

OMG. A UK paper (unfortunately paywalled) with a deep dive piece on how “radical transgender ideology” has taken over rowing.

Very scary. In theory, at least.

They weren’t actually able to find any transgender rowers to illustrate the point. But still, I’m so glad they did this prominent piece about what a threat we are facing.

The latter probably occurs much more frequently than the former.

Why is that we either have to support biological males in women's sports, or else actively support attacking transgender people with violence? Is there room for any opinion in between?

Point is, making too big a deal about the former leads to the latter. Said it numerous times.

It's not a victimization thing to point that out.

So we have to accept biological males in womens sports in order to prevent nutjobs from attacking trans people ?

Michigan ballot referendum to enshrine abortion rights losing support due to a claim that its really a way to permit transition surgery. Go to where the irrational hatred is

Some of Dixon’s supporters attending the rally said abortion and the ballot-measure vote are top of mind, part of a larger concern that the government is infringing on the rights of parents. Dixon and other antiabortion advocates have claimed the legislation would eliminate parental consent for children seeking abortions, and for those seeking gender therapy.

She said she is voting against Proposal 3 because she believes it “is where that trans surgery is hiding.” The ballot measure also does not mention gender-affirming care.
