Obviously the red states didn’t get the plants without pretty sweet pots by the state and local government right?
So once again some loud mouths that make up a portion of a party are credited with representing the entire group.

Asking as I don’t know are the people in Ga “fighting” against the Rivian plant just because it’s EV or are there concerns like pollution from manufacturing?

They’ve been opposing it since it was first announced. I can’t read the article but I’m going to guess it’s just the latest opposition tactic, not an actual concern. I don’t think the opposition is largely EV specific but a NIMBY anti-development movement where they’re throwing the kitchen sink at it. But the fact it is an EV factory 100% played a role in statewide elections. Perdue criticized Kemp during the primary “for offering taxpayer incentives to attract a ‘George Soros-owned woke corporation whose stated purpose is to combat climate change.’”

 

In my area there are always some groups anti growth who lose it when the city/county looks to use property a
tax breaks for new development. I did some searching and the articles seem to indicate that was the biggest issue, something like 5 billion in tax abatement.

I did not see the quote that you mention in any of the articles. Not saying he didn’t say that but it certainly wasn’t mentioned in any of the articles. Quite a few from the AJC not a Pub friendly paper..

There are $1.8 Billion reasons why this plant is going to Georgia.

North Carolina also has much more stringent environmental requirements for manufacturing than Georgia does, and were likely never really a candidate. More like, Hyundai used NC as leverage. Hyundai has a strong tie to Georgia.

Kia (a Hyndai subidiary) already has a plant in West Point, Georgia (south west of Atlanta) and SK Innovation (Hyundai) is building a mega-battery plant north east of Atlanta.
