Well we know one thing for certain, it wasn't the smoking of 4 cigarettes simultaneously. The bath water would have put them out.
Probably not his habit of avoiding fresh food either he ate roadkill – preferring rotten porcupine meat – and drank five litres of water a day collected from puddles in a rusty pail.
I was thinking about this recently in the context of the caveman book I was reading. Cats don't bathe, but I guess they clean themselves. Dogs will smell bad, but after awhile, maybe the smell is just as bad as it's ever gonna get. Do other primates bathe or rinse off? I wonder when humans started making this a very common thing? What about desert tribes? How do they handle the smell of each other given that they would have very little water if any for long periods of time? I'm not sure if it's medically risky but certainly seems gross to us.
The Romans covered themselves in oil and scraped their body. People practiced getting "clean" differently, but strong perfume was probably the old school way to mask BO and seem "clean." But I imagine BO was just sort of a normal thing people didnt really notice.
As Peter Griffin said "I can't wait to make love to you 100 years before the invention of toilet paper".
And to think he lived to be 94. Here's a poser I like ask young kids. Do fish take a bath? The quizzical looks you get from them are priceless.
"...he ate roadkill – preferring rotten porcupine meat – and drank five litres of water a day collected from puddles in a rusty pail." Despite this unorthodox lifestyle, his constitution remained robust until recently My girlfriend will love my new healthy approach to life.
Pretty good to make 94 with weathered skin like that. I have heard of some people that bathe infrequently that just apply microorganisms to the parts of the body that will get smelly. Something like probiotic organisms I think. They claim the skin will hold up better that way or something like that.
