I happen to know a lot of teachers both in the private and public sectors. Private schools tend to pay less than public schools and don't require the same credentials.
While I know quite a few conservative public school teachers, they typically trend to the more liberal or Dem side. Mostly for this reason: No matter what, you are going to align yourself with where your livelihood comes from. Teachers get their pay from taxes and are for tax increases since it can increase their pay. Lawyers that make money from insurance companies (morgan and morgan) are also going to be more liberal and anti business since that's where their money comes from, no tort reform etc.

I think it is more about empathy. Teachers typically rate off the charts towards empathy in the personality tests, and that is why we go into the profession - and empathy tends more toward liberalism.

I disagree that children should have ever been masked (with the benefit of hindsight), but saying that mask mandates only apply to pre-vaccine COVID times is reasonable. I disagree, but I understand that.

Not worried at all. You need to stop listening to what's on MSNBC.

Because masks don't work. Easy as that.

My advice is to stop reading all the left wing media you obviously consume.

Absurd post. One can think the Constitution as a whole was and is a flawed document while also still believing the First Amendment is foundational to our democracy. And your failure to distinguish between self-censorship brought on through social consequences and censorship brought on through the force of law only displays your bad faith here.

P.S. Using the Constitution "as a shield" to protect civil liberties when Republicans pass laws that violate the First Amendment's Free Speech Clause is the entire point of having a constitution.

I don't watch cable much, so I'm not sure what you mean. But this is a morning ritual on Monday with a lot of teachers, so not out of the realm of possibilities. It could also be that one child's dads show up to an event and other students ask. Open your mind to the ramifications of what the government wants to do.

This would be a great post if it contributed anything accurate, meaningful, relevant, or verifiable.

Nice post, as usual. I often consult Diane Ravitch about educational issues. In addition to being a teacher education scholar, she served on G Bush's cabinet as Deputy Secretary of Education. Here's what Ravitch wrote about the parental rights law back in April:

Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” law has two ostensible purposes. One is to bring national attention to Governor Ron DeSantis as the heir to Donald Trump’s MAGA base. The other is to humiliate gay people, who are collateral damage in DeSantis’ pursuit of the 2024 Republican nomination. Since teachers in K-3 in Florida do not teach sex education, the law is no more than a symbolic insult.

Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” law is described as a “parental rights” law. Among other things, House Bill 1557 bans any instruction about sexuality and gender identity in grades K-3, and requires that any such instruction in grades 4-12 must be age appropriate. The law allows parents to sue the district if they believe the law has been violated, and the district must pay the cost of the lawsuit.

What’s it really about? This bill is rightly understood to be a condemnation of homosexuality across the board. It strikes out at students, teachers, parents, and other people who are gay. It stigmatizes all gay people. Children who have gay parents must not mention that fact in school. Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida legislature want to shove them back into the closet.

The same people who worry that white children will be shamed by any discussion of racism in the history classroom don’t care at all about children who might be gay or who have gay parents and family members. The “Don’t Say Gay” law is the Republicans’ effort to “cancel” people who are gay, make them invisible. That should work as well as eliminating racism by banning any discussion about racism.
The Real Purpose of Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” Bill

Too soon. DeSantis hasn't assembled his freedom of education policing force yet.

Just because some teachers think it is possible doesn’t make it true. Just makes you sound partisan. Don’t discuss sex with young children. Not a hard concept to grasp. If you say it isn’t being done then there is nothing to worry about.

Are you aware of the 1619 Project, are you aware of Democrats pressuring social media companies to censor "misinformation?"

Just some low-hanging fruit that verifies my statements as accurate.
