It is just getting really bizarre what people will believe. We actually had someone make the claim here today that kids were identifying and dressing as animals in schools, and that the schools were going along with it. I had family tell me about this weeks ago. I knew nothing of the story, but I was 99.44% certain they'd been hoodwinked.
It’s happening whether you guy believe it or not. I know this firsthand at my son’s elementary school. I saw his teacher at the store buying cat litter. I guess it’s possible she was a cat owner but that didn’t stop me from spreading rumors.
Rivergator is pretty reliable and he just posted: “…kids were identifying and dressing as animals in schools, and that the schools were goingalong with it...” That’s an unedited, partial quote and I chose to believe him.
Jon Oliver covered this, complete with video of 1/2 a dozen republicans claiming that woke teachers were allowing children to identify as cats and giving them litter boxes to crap in right inside the classroom….
It is a story that is useful to some people. The fact that it is not true is not useful to those same people. So it is true.
As I mentioned in the other thread where this came up - this thing made the rounds up here on 3 different community FB pages. At least it broke up the monotony of the constant bickering between the Survivalist Preppers and the Doomsday Preppers. Those guys get old
Those guys drive me crazy. I am not a "Doomsday Prepper." More of a "Rainy Day Prepper." Never hurts to have a couple of weeks worth of food and water on hand for an emergency. Or a generator and some fuel on hand. Or well-stocked first aid kits. Or storm shutters. Or homeowners insurance. Or a spare tire. Preparedness is an excellent thing. Once again, however, it has been hijacked by the extreme 1%. Everyone who lives in Florida should be a prepper. This place is an SHTF waiting to happen.
I agree though I don't seriously live up to it, only partially. We are likely going to invest in a generator now - just have to research. Two things - read "One Second After" if you want to be terrified about surviving after an EMP attack. Second, Dad win. Daughter moves out to LA - I buy her two earthquake prep kits, one for car and one to keep by the door. Very basic stuff - not as good as this one I just found online - Massive derision. Dad, you're paranoid. This is embarrassing. We are out there I think 2 years ago. By coincidence, two shakes while there - fairly strong at epicenter but not in LA, about 100 miles away - just enough to make us run out of the restaurant/house and get an upset stomach in LA. But her first such experiences. First one happened while we were out getting breakfast, second later that day while at the house she was renting with roommates. We get back from restaurant after first one and her roommate says she grabbed the kit on the way out and is now ordering two for herself, all her friends were as well, for home and car. Said she didn't know they existed before, they all thought it was funny when I had them shipped to my daughter, but now ordering. Roommate told my daughter that was smart; they were wrong. Got major Dad cred points. Let me tell you, those are hard to come by.
First, well done Dad. Seriously, very well done. Second, I've read One Second After. Impossible to prepare for that. Here is my philosophy below: Rank the likelihood of disasters. Then begin preparing for each one as your budget allows. Do not skip items on the list. Do them in order. You do not need to prepare for an EMP if your spare tire is flat. Also remember that some of these could happen simultaneously, such as #7 because of #5 or #6 because of #7 or #8. My personal disaster list (partial) looks like this. 1) Car breakdown/flat tire 2) Medical emergency (trauma events, not diseases) 3) Loss of job (me or my spouse), or big financial hit like AC goes down or transmission needs replacement 4) House fire or carbon monoxide/other gas leak 5) Hurricane/Flooding/Tornado/Lightning Strike 6) Civil Unrest (about to move down my list when we move out of Jax, hopefully in the coming weeks) 7) Extended power loss (about to move up my list when we move out of Jax to the boonies) 8) Food shortages, or inflation of food prices. 9) Another pandemic 10) Ongoing major illness EMP is WAAAY down the list. But no doubt, it is the worst case scenario and would be very simple for a couple of bad actor nations to carry out.
That is good stuff. After reading that book, I am certain there is no way we could survive and EMP. Hurricane is top of ours but you raise some others that we should prepare for. Good breakdown. Not sure we could survive civil unrest. Not a gun guy and old. Debated getting one of these for the limited situation where it could help, but would be wholly inadequate for true unrest

I don’t see a problem with identifying as a animal. I identify as a leopard (the most magnificent big cat outside of a black panther). Maybe more of a wereleopard. It hasn’t come out fully but little bits of leopard behavior punctuate my every day.
