thanks for posting that. real world stuff. sounds like it is almost hunter killer pack working at night and they are killing lots of inferior trained/equipeed/led russian troops

One of the things we have run into with forward Russian troop nodes, is we can detect them by smelling food cooking. They could do the same to us here in our safe place, but they don’t seem to range this far from “home.”

Strategic reconnaissance detection doctrine…old school stuff: troops eating at the same time are less alert. About 30 mins after a meal people get sleepy. Individuals preparing and eating food are distracted.

Another thing we look at is: do they have defense in depth, have they mined their obvious attack approaches, do they have unmined escape routes? You have to find ways to stack the deck in your favor. We always think along an action/reaction matrix…they might run, they might hide, they might fight, depends on the group and their leadership, as well as their ultimate capabilities, and their perception of the threat.

If things go to shit, we know we have to gain fire superiority very quickly, or at least the perception of fire superiority. At best, this allows us to either prevail or break contact and survive.

And no one has suggested otherwise....you repeatedly give us the William Tecumseh "war is hell" , which everyone already gets. But you continue to ignore the nuances that differentiate what Putin is sanctioning vs what you term "heat of the moment". At this point it is clear that for some reason you refuse to recognize that reality....I'll leave it to you if you want to clarify why

Depends on your source. If Western, Russia is stalling or losing. If Western *but not shot through with prior hatred for Putin* Ukraine is getting demolished.

Example of latter: Brian Berletic, of The New Atlas, is a former US Marine who uses only pro-Ukrainian maps and Western sources, like the DOD briefings, to underscore how badly Ukraine is getting battered.

Those weren't my wishes!! It was a freaking joke,!! Do you understand the difference? Maybe you should spend some time with Igor, too. He might be able to explain it to you in a way you'll understand.....

Correction: evacuating a portion of the citizenry, pouring in troops and digging. And I’m beginning to think that Ukraine is bluffing about this last-gasp before midterms counter-offensive. All they’ve managed, the last week or two, are small forays that get battered.

And yet still better on that measure than Russia. And for some reason, you haven't pointed out how corrupt they are. You know, just for information purposes, not because you are taking sides here.

Hand waiving. That is a completely empty statement. It is unfalsifiable (when has "the issue" been solved) and completely non-specific.

Wow, I didn't think you would end up defending colonialism, but here you are. Defending colonialism.

Yeah, this is the ridiculousness of your argument. You think sending weapons to Ukraine ends the US as a "superpower." Based on what? That we can't spend tens of billions of dollars without ceasing to be a superpower? We expended literally trillions a decade ago on losing causes and that didn't cause us to lose the status, but the tens of billions that we spend on increasing the cost of annexation by a wannabe colonial power is going to do it. Sure.

Yep, water boarding and rape and mass graves are equivalent. Perhaps you should quit while you are behind.

Carpe started off with a perfectly valid and useful viewpoint (That we were only hearing one side of the story and there were risks we weren’t accepting), but kind of got buried in what he had to defend to continue to make that point as things got worse and the worst cases didn’t materialize. Now it’s basically Duggar lite. Even if some of his original concerns could ti be proven true. So I stopped engaging that a long while back.
Meantime, not surprised that the extreme liberal side of the caucus wants negotiations, and I think we all support it if it had the potential to actually go somewhere. But I’m also afraid that it’s a naive view starting to form that Putin is a guy that just wants a chance to make peace. He will have to be forced into it from a position of weakness, as long as he sees any path to victory and his regime is secure, he isn’t giving up an inch of what he has.

Reading that: (A) mobilization is ongoing and will exceed 300,000 and (B) four more regions including Odessa and Nikolaev will hold referendums.

The sooner they’re in theatre the sooner Ukrainian forces can go about killing them. Several hundred thousand dead or injured soldiers will get the average Russian citizens attention

IMO this is a fight to the finish. Fortunately for NATO it's Ukrainian blood being spilt to stem totalitarian aggression on the front lines. Zelensky is absolutely right. NATO should supply unlimited resources to the effort.

There is no diplomatic solution here. The Stalinist snake head has emerged from its den after getting lopped off in 89.

If NATO and Ukraine lose there will be a new world order alright, for those sympathetic to Putin, you are traitors to all of the blood and political capital spilled by the US and our NATO Allies since 1945.

Extremist in the USA, left and right, better adjust their attitude or start learning Chinese and Russian.
