@Aggies, Bama, @hogs, and cowbells are the final 4 gms. I would guess they win at least 2 of those and finish 9-3. Good year for ole Miss and fans will be happy assuming they beat MSU who is fading.
The portal has not worked that well for the Gators. Or should I say Mullen did not work that well with the Portal. From 11/22/18 to 07/02/18, the Gator have lost a total of 44 players and received a total of 22 players. So in a period of four seasons, you can say that the Gators have lost an equivalent of a signing class. I believe that the last year was one our worse with the Portal. We picked up 6 players and lost 14. At that time UF was becoming a dumpster fire. I doubt that many high quality players were giving us a second look.
Billy has to make DL and LB a priority in the portal. 0 transfers again this year i these 2 positions can’t happen.
I wanted to get an idea of how well we statistically pressure the qb by our defensive line so I looked up the total number of sacks. At this point in the season, we have 7 total sacks by defensive linemen. I looked up Clemson as a comparison because I believe they have a good defensive line. They have 16 sacks by defensive linemen currently. I know sacks don’t tell the whole story but they can give us some indication of our failure to pressure the quarterback.
And we're going to lose a lot to the portal this year, either by choice or by being nudged out by the coaching staff. One estimate I saw had up to 25 players transferring out. Since we have very few seniors and not many overall who will get drafted, we need a lot of guys to leave in order to sign a full class and bring in some transfers of our own. But the roster next year will definitely have many, many new faces.
Thanks for the follow up. I was focused on the past data, thus I was not looking at the current/future trends. I fear that you are correct in your statement of 25 transferring out. I know that some of the negative comments about coaching hires have to be allowed. The jury is still out if the UF AD made the right hire and there are some valid questions on the play we are seeing on the field. Especially with the Gator Defense. My fear is that some (or too many) of the negative comments could end up poisoning the well. Too much negativity could lead to the following; Coaches moving on, players moving out via the Portal, and too few players coming into via the Portal or the 2022 signee class (especially top quality players).
Two things need to happen. One, reduce the flow of the players leaving via the Portal. Two, make some changes to the defense. The changes to the defense: 1, If not done so already, put more focus on tackling techniques, and swarming to the ball. We are seeing too any yards gained after contact. Improved tackling and more tacklers in position will cut those yards down. 2, Get rid of the deep drops on pass defense. We are seeing too many open receivers and not enough busted receptions. Yes, I know that comments were made that the pass defenders look like they are totally lost out there. However, this change will validate how good or how bad talent is. 3, At this stage of the season, give all the players some playing time. This could light a fire under the starters. It will also give the coaches a good idea on who to keep and who to move out.
Could it be he wanted what Da U was going to give him and not as much what Napier/UF did? Can't make some folks see the light.
They play Alabama, Arkansas, Texas A&M, and Miss. State to close out the season, so, yes I do. Good chance they lose at least 2 of those games.
And a good reason why the secondary might look so bad. No matter how good the DBs are, if the QB has all day to find someone open, he eventually will.
Fans got the fix to the problem they demanded last year and the guy they wanted to lead the program. Now it's time to own up and take responsibility as if they made the change they wanted.
QB whisper, da hacker he hacked our wallets. On he D, y’all know it takes a couple years to install a new defensive scheme Right? Or not, ymmv
The defenses of the last three years seem like the same entity. So, if you group those years all together, we have a winner... Worst Defense in Gator History. Yes this feels historically bad. When third down hits, we should just attempt a negotiated settlement.
