Sorry all. Been traveling 7 straight days for work. Thought I clicked post on this but never did. Bummer too
I love this annual thread. Special thank you to RealtyGator for this annual picks thread. I wonder if we can make it even better? What if we start with 2,000 points next year? Is that even a consideration for you, my man, RealtyGator? With the same minimum bet per week.
I saw that. A few years ago I was in O'Hare airport waiting for a flight next to an obvious former athlete talking on the phone something about a scholarship offer. His HS-aged kid was sitting next to him and it was apparent they were on a recruiting trip. After he finished his phone conversation, I spoke with him a bit. His name was Al Harris, former Chicago Bear standout who famously sat out the 1985 season (their Superbowl year). Despite his wild misfortune, the Chicago community has always adored Al Harris, as he is a great man and prominent in the Chicago community. So who was he on the phone with? The Dazzler . . . I think he was HBC for Temple at the time.
(unofficial) by the numbers . . . 17 of 36 panelists remain. Four fell out this week. Faves and dogs are an equal 40 - 40 on the season. Nova, who gained 450pts this week, continues to dominate. Panelists correctly selected 15 out of 35 picks this week. This thread becomes shorter and shorter each week.
A few weeks ago someone pointed out that this is how bookmakers make money. I’d be curious to know how many points does the house have at this time. Since then I realize this panel is a perfect example of that. Going into this week’s games, only one person had more than they started with. Numerous ones had lost all. This really is a microcosm of the sports betting world, and a reminder for me not to play with real money. Of course, I have a really good feeling about next week’s picks …
Heck, I had a really good feeling about this week's picks. Ole Miss easily looked like the better team than LSU. A&M has far far far more talent than SC and many of the pundits were picking Kansas St to win straight up at TCU. Well, two of those teams had their QB knocked out of the game and the third team just sucked. And what are we to make of LSU? CFB is weird.
The Horns didn’t Hook ‘Em and the Aggies didn’t Gig ‘Em. The only thing that Rolled my way was the Tide. I almost went with TCU because I’ve always liked them, and horned frogs are cool reptiles that I liked catching as a kid, but wasn’t as confident with them as the others.
It doesn't really matter how many points we start off with. The more points everybody has, the less they are worth. I am inclined NOT to change the starting amount simply to maintain consistency in the final results from year to year. I would be amenable to changing the minimum bet, so per your suggestion that would be lowering it to 50. The issue is really how people play the game, not how much we start with
I understand your logical reasoning for keeping the starting points at 1,000. I only said suggested a change so that less people drop out during the season, and what you suggested would work equally well. Thank you for considering that change to a 50 point minimum.
