Fair enough. Sadly I also know the big booster want their assess rubbed by the HbC. I wonder if SOS would have had the success he had if he was a HBC at UF now as opposed to when he was here…
And my point is I think running ability often slows a guy’s development as a passer because they take off instead of stay in the pocket.
AR could run 20 times a game and we would probably have a better offense but I think Napier knows that unless he learns to stay in the pocket and develop his passing as his number one skill set, his ceiling will be limited.
I don't think that's why his running is limited nor do I think running more would hurt his development as a passer. In fact, I think it would help him. A lot of very successful QBs in the NFL use their legs quite a bit and did in college. You don't intentionally hamper yourself in the hopes that you're somehow improving some other aspect. Particularly in the game itself. The idea that Napier is making the offense worse in the hopes of improving one aspect of one player's game (a very dubious notion at that) at the expense of others ... well, it doesn't hold up to much scrutiny.
Look at the last few QBs to get drafted as the top QB. They were all guys who were allowed to run when they needed to, even when they weren't top flight passers. Trevor Lawrence Joe Burrow Kyler Murray Baker Mayfield Nobody tapped the breaks and made them stay in the pocket. They got better at passing (as all QBs will over time) but still used their feet to both make the offense go and open up more opportunities for the passing game.
Agreed, but it requires having an offense like UT's. Right now they cut through any defense like a knife through hot butter. That said ... I think they will stumble this season against a strong defense. They haven't yet played one of those (no, Bama doesn't count this year)
I guess I thought it was a personal goal of ARs coming into this season to focus on being a pocket passer rather than Napier ever telling him to. I expect BN wants AR to trust his OL and go through progression after which all bets are off so go make a play. Same goes if protection breaks down...
I'm sure he is/was eager to demonstrate his skills here. But if a QB comes to a coach and says "I just want to pass" I'd hope the coach says in response "you're gonna do what you need to do to win games." IMO AR is limited in his running because he's been hurt a lot and we have almost no healthy depth behind him.
It's an interesting recruiting pitch to future QBs: Come to Florida. If you're struggling at all within your first 8 starts - even if you show flashes of brilliance - our fan base will decide you should be converted to TE.

People have opinions, that’s what this thing is all about. AR is the Bonafide star player on the team, so people are bound to have more opinions to post about him. Just my take, people desperately want to see AR blow it up, he has that potential, no doubt. He does at times, but not much of the time, yet. I very much hope he finds his groove soon and becomes the superstar QB most want him to be. I also hope he’s in a UF uniform in 23, for his growth, and is in NY collecting hardware in Dec. fwiw: Far-far more people were calling for Feleipe to be a TE. He’s now basically a TE for ATL in the league collecting nice checks. Not saying for a second this will or should be AR also. Just that those crazy people were ultimately right.
Plus Alabama made a lot of unlike-Bama mistakes and I still say the refs played at least some part in the decision. Even forgetting the refs, if the Gumps had played a more Gump-like game, I believe they would have won . . . in Knoxville.
Anyone that thinks this about AR is either mistaken, or they are mistaken and NOT really a Gator fan.
